Okay. I haven't written a novel. And, I don't plan to. But, if I did, the first line would be...
Helene was always rather fond of cabbages.
The husband God gave me bought me a stuffed bunny. I named her Helene, as she is holding a cabbage in one paw. He found her the week I told him the 'first line'.
So far, I can't come up with a second line, an outline, or even a plot. I suspect that even Helene is growing weary of holding that cabbage.
But, someday inspiration might strike. At least one can always hope.

For both Snoopy and me: "It was a dark and stormy night."
You always used to say it would be, "Helene was always rather fond of cabbages, but lately they had been giving her gas." Are you trying to look more mature in front of your blog friends?
You must have missed the memo. Helene began using 'beano'.
Another option was 'Helene was always rather fond of cabbages, or was it kings? She could never remember exactly.'
And, I have given up EVER trying to look mature in front of anyone.
