A necessary read (and only 99 cents!)

I found an excellent book while thrift shopping Saturday. It is titled "Losing My Mind - An Intimate Look at Life with Alzheimer's", written by Thomas DeBaggio. It follows the first year of his diagnosis with AD. Wow. What a book. I love how it is written, three parts all in one. First, his past, then what he is experiencing presently, and then what the medical community is discovering about the disease. I think I have learned more in this one book than in all the others I have read on the subject. Today I 'googled' the authors name, and found that he has since written another book. That gives me hope.

My mother is suffering from some sort of dementia. No one has given it a name other than that. My parents have survived a plethora of medical maladies; breast cancer, prostate cancer, heart failure, stroke...it just goes on and on...but this dementia thing is awful. But, I try to keep a sense of humor about it, and so does she. Now, my dad isn't seeming to find ANYTHING humorous about the whole ordeal.

Anyway...I wish I were a research scientist and could offer some hope for a cure.

I had forgotten about that book, but it was good to be reminded of it. My Dad had dementia too.
