Not that anyone has ever stopped to ask me, "Judy, just what are your Saturdays like?" But, I feel inclined to answer that question all the same.
I work early Saturday morning, so that the church is ready for the Messianic congregation that shares space with my church.
Then, it's breakfast at Russ' (local place) with whomever of the children are available. Today it was Daughter and Son-in-law. I had eggs benedict and a lot of coffee.
From there we hit some of our favorite thrift stores. Even though you did not ask, I must tell you what I bought! Two pairs of pants that actually fit me well, and four books. "A Circle of Quiet" by Madeleine L'Engle, "Man's Search for Meaning" by Viktor Frankl, "Aprils Grave and Call in the Night" by Susan Howatch (did i mention yet that i really like how she writes? i really like how she writes.) and, "Christmas in the Barn" by Margaret Wise Brown. The husband God gave me bought two shirts. I thought they were really really ugly shirts, but he assured me they are only to be worn under suit coats. He also got two ties, equally ugly, but in a good way.
After thrift shopping we did a bit of antiquing. This is ALWAYS fun. I found four postcards with postmarks from the 1910's with great graphics. I bought a children's cup and saucer with the 'Georgie Porgie' rhyme on it and really cute pictures. And to add to my ever growing collection of cookie cutters, I spent a dollar on one shaped like a man. Not a gingerbread man, but a man. But, the best dollar was spent on a white hankie with cutwork, lace and a micro-mini crochet edge. It's in perfect condition. To think of the work someone put into making that, just for nose blowing.
I needed library cards/pockets for the new books I am getting ready to enter in the church library. For this I go to one of those 'teacher' stores. I could spend HOURS in there! THGGM took a nap in the car while I shopped. My funds were limited, or I could have spent a fortune. I was good. I just got what I went in for.
For lunch, we ate peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. It has been my lot in life to smell perpetually of peanut butter.
After lunch I worked on the lesson for Sunday School tomorrow. I'm the teacher for the next two weeks. We are studying Henry and Mel Blackaby's book "What's So Spiritual About Your Gifts?" Very interesting perspective. I do my studying with a cat on my lap.
Soon I will be heading over to my parents house to get their medications organized for the week. This is always fun. They are two of the nicest people I know.
Then, it's back to work. Somewhere in there I will practice the piano.
THGGM is taking down the outside Christmas decorations and cleaning up the garage. He is also spray painting things white. This is what he does, with reckless abandon.
Back home, I will watch "Trading Spaces" and then delve into my current Susan Howatch book, "Glamorous Powers".
I LOVE Saturday!

I think maybe we should be best friends.
Judy, your Saturday sounds perfect to me. "Circle of Quiet" is one of my favorite books. I love thrift shopping, antiquing and school supply stores. And I also am doomed to smell like peanut butter forever.
