Books

Total books owned, ever:

Thousands. I love books.

Last book(s) bought:

A hardcover copy of Sheldon Van Auken's "A Severe Mercy" for 25 cents.
"Leaving a Trace - the art of transforming a life into stories" by Alexandra Johnson. I paid full price for that one.

Last book(s) read:

"Any Given Day - the life and times of Jessie Lee Brown Foveaux".
"We Are Your Sisters - black women in the nineteenth century", edited by Dorothy Sterling.
Presently I'm reading "Standing in the Rainbow" by Fannie Flagg, "Leaving a Trace" by Alexandra Johnson, and "Eats, Shoots & Leaves" by Lynne Truss.

Five books that mean a lot to me:

1. My Bible
2. "A Bird in a Tree" by Elizabeth Goudge. This is my favorite fiction book. I own thousands of books, but I don't have this one (yet).
3. "Common Sense Christian Living" by Edith Schaeffer, because it is full of common sense. Not all that many books are.
4. "My Utmost for His Highest" daily devotional by Oswald Chambers. If you don't have a copy, you are missing out. I have several.
5. "The Timetables of History" because I have a need to know what was happening at the same time something else was happening. That fascinates me.

That just scratches the surface. I have categories of favorite books. That's why I need thousands of them.

Someday, I will die, and The Husband God Gave Me will put a sign out front. "BOOKS - ONE DOLLAR". People will flock to this sale, gather up books by the arm load and as they go to pay, THGGM will say, "Oh, I meant ALL the books are one dollar, not one dollar for each one!" (he isn't a big fan of books. everyone needs a fault.)

My husband's a big fan of books. In fact, that's the only reason for his profession--they provide a large office full of bookshelves. ;) I recently bought "A Severe Mercy", too, at a thrift store. And I, too, paid full price for "Leaving a Trace" (which I just ran across on my bookshelf again today while I was dusting, as I do annually.)

My husband would do the same! He is not happy about my books everywhere but puts up with it. Helped my son finish moving to his new house yesterday...hubby says to me on way home...Son, is just like you...we are packing along with newspaper and he sees something interesting and has to stop to read it! I should also add that THGGM will throw in all of my rubber stamps for free.
