Halfway There

This is a reminder that it is now only six months until Christmas.

Grab that box of recipes and take it out on the porch. Slip all the recipes you use around the holidays into a zippered freezer bag. As you bake/cook the recipe will be visible through the bag, yet won't end up looking like a 'scratch and sniff' card. Also, write a shopping list of all the things you need for the stuff you make every year and laminate it. Stick that in the freezer bag too, for all the years to come.

At about this time of year, I start to think that it isn't really necessary for me to give all those small useless gifts I end up giving every year. So, most years I tell myself that I'm just 'not gonna do it'. IT'S A LIE! I AM going to do it, so I might as well just plan for it now, instead of going into an 11th hour panic trying to find something that's not TOO embarrassing to give to someone that I love. Evaluate yourself a minute. Either decide not to and don't, or decide to - and start gathering NOW.

Oh, and about stocking stuffers. Each year, on Christmas night, I think how much easier it would be if I shopped for these all year long. On Christmas night, I forget just what kind of a person I actually am. It's now halfway FROM Christmas also, and I have three stocking stuffers bought for six stockings.

So, learn from me. Run along and do all of this NOW. You can thank me later.

A few years ago we began the Biblical holidays. Though Hannukah is not a required one, it is one our Lord observed too and it is a fun one. But if you do it right, American style, that is 8 presents to figure out...one each night. We try to do that for our one kid left at home anyway. We also try to have visitors at least some of those nights. Thanks for the reminder to begin looking ahead and planning better. We can find better bargains that way too. Actually I mostly try to find things year around when out shopping for those I love. I rather like spreading it out through the year. I am beginning to keep folders now on each of the holidays, recipe wise especially and trying to find more authentic dishes to try out each time, etc. Makes life more interesting.

I should be shopping. You're right. I'll get right on that.
