My New Career

Finally, at the age of 47, I've decided exactly what I want to be when I grow up.

I want to be a grandma.

I pretty much have the look down already.

I have the spare room(s), the box of dress-up clothes, the educational toys, the stacks and stacks of books.

I have the miniature bake set, the paperdolls, crocks bursting forth with crayons and colored pencils.

Just last week I bought bubbles and fingerpaints. I have plenty of paper. I have a basket full of stuffed animals and rubber dolls.

I have a fenced-in backyard with a swing. My front porch has a swing. There is a fabulous ice cream shoppe right across the street.

I already have a crib and a highchair.

Oh, and love. I've got that too. And...a grandpa just as excited as I am!

A career grandma. Yes. Yes. This is what I want to be when I grow up.

Having this career myself, I can say it is a good one to have. However, it is also a VERY VERY tiring one. You are glad to see them and glad to come home or they go home! And then you collapse on the couch for the next day or so!

Grammas, imho are made to have cookies and stories and hugs ready for the grandchildren, and I am looking forward to my new job... though hopefully not for several more years yet! (In the mean time I can borrow small children from weary parents in order to practise!)
