Now, About Those Cookies...

Between yesterday and today I have made two batches of rice krispy treats (the peanut butter kind with frosting), two batches of chewy ginger cookies, toffee (i must mention here that it turned out the very first time!) and cut-out cookies. The truth about the cut-outs? I've rolled out and baked one dozen, and Oldest Son helped me roll out and bake another dozen. More dough remains in the fridge. I WILL finish them, and frost and decorate them - later.
I needed Oldest Son's help with the rice krispy treats, as I cannot stir them. My hands have pretty much become useless appendages that dangle from the ends of my arms.
This is majorly due to the fact that I got it into my head that I had to draw snowmen people for certain members of my family.
By the time I was finished, my fingers were numb (actually, they are always numb, but when i typed 'number' it just looks all wrong.) Days later, my hands are still numb. The kind of numb that hurts. I am going to have to go have this problem taken care of. In the mean time, what to do with my piles and piles of unfinished projects needing to be done in one weeks time? Argh. What was I thinking? Oh, well.
Let's see...what else has happened this weekend...
You have, of course, heard of this major snow storm happening over here? Well. Youngest Son went to his girl friend's college basketball game in Indiana this weekend. As he was leaving, the storm was in full swing there. He had a GPS with him for the trip down, but he couldn't charge it for the return trip. I am happy to report that I was able to guide him safely out of Mishawauka (although i did suggest that he locate his cousin, who lives there) and onto the correct highways by googling mapquest and reading him the directions. Technology is amazing. I am happy to report that with only minimal slipage, he arrived safely home. I am also thankful since he had our one and only car. You know, the car with the four new tires that represent my Christmas gifts for the next eight years. But truly, I cared more about Youngest Son's safe arrival.
Last night Jonge spent the night at "Pake's house!". I love this. Because he has been told he is going to "Pake's house" he doesn't make any requests of me. It's all about Jonge and PAKE. I once handed him a cookie on one of these occasions and he refused it. Making clear that he would only accept it from Pake. I really enjoy "Pake's house" nights. Pake changes diapers, Pake gets him ready for bed, Pake does it all! And, when Jonge awakes during the 'wee' hours of the morning, it is Pake he calls for. Pake loves every single minute of it, too.
Am I the only one who never experienced "Mr. Willowby's Christmas Tree" as a child? Last year I found a copy at a thrift store, and purchased it only because it was green, and a Christmas book. Upon seeing it, THGGM told me that it had been his favorite Christmas book when he was little. I had never even heard of it. I must tell you, it is VERY unusual for THGGM to have read a book that I haven't. So, last night, Pake, Jonge and I read it together. THGGM and I enjoyed the book very much. Jonge was stuck on the fact that there was a picture of a 'meow-meow' in it, and he would rather stare at that then watch the top come off of a Christmas tree every time we turned the page.
So, it's off to bed for me. I'm reading "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever". I love that book. I read it every year. Last night I made it through the first three pages before I feel asleep.

I love the nights when it's Pepa's turn. Partly because I enjoy an occasional break, but always because it's just so cool to watch them bond.

my hands go numb too... they told me it is tendonitis and there is nothing I can do about... useful eh? (yes, I am Canadian). Mine went numb after writing all the Christmas cards to our congregation. Ouch.

I also have never heard of Willowby's Christmas tree. My aunt always insists on watching the Sound of Music at Christmas. My mom wants to watch "A Christmas Carol"= the original one in black and white. I like Miracle on 34th street and it's a wonderful life. The only story I remember READING was the night before Christmas poem and of course Jesus' birth.

I ordered several Christmas stories from my sons' school but haven't gotten them yet! Hopefully they will arrive BEFORE Christmas and we can start some new reading traditions :)
