Monday Holiday!

Dinner last night was a picnic in Daughter and Son-in-law's backyard (pictures in post below).
After dinner, those who felt inclined went to the fireworks in Grand Rapids. I declined and went home to recline.
Breakfast this morning was at our house.

We had sausages, scrambled eggs with a lot of cheese, a carved watermelon basket FULL of fresh fruit, and donuts from Marge's Donut Den (marge's donuts are the best! - great wedding cakes, too!).

I don't think Famke ate anything. She just poked her donut 'flag' into her food.

Jonge is ALL excited, because after breakfast is the parade!

I quit going to fireworks and parades years ago. About the time I really started to embrace my inner 'boringness'.

Not a fan of crowds or loud noises. Quite possibly, I should get a shirt like Kado's.

I forgot to take a picture of my watermelon basket. It wasn't the fanciest one I've ever made, but the watermelon was GOOD.
Kado has become very social with all of the family. For the first year, like most babies, he preferred his mommy and daddy (and me!). Now, he is crazy about the uncles!

I do believe that THGGM and I had a lovely weekend, but it was impossible to forget all of the changes since the last Independence weekend. I spent that one in the hospital with my dad.
And, I can never forget all those years when July 4th was my FAVORITE day. My mom and I would send THGGM and my dad to the parade with our kids, and we stayed back and rubberstamped Christmas cards! Oh, it was SOOOOO much fun. I was going to do that today, but, it's just not the same anymore.
Oh, well. We DID have a lovely weekend.
In the afternoon we went shopping at Somewhere In Thyme. Treasures. I found TREASURES there. Well. At least MY kind of treasures! www.simplythrift.blogspot.com
And, if I feel so inclined tonight, I can see the Grandville fireworks from my kitchen window.
