Random Thought Number One -
I don't have grandkids here today. This means that I have a few meals cooked and a loaf of chocolate chip banana bread cooling on the table. It also means that I am not dressed and haven't showered yet. THGGM will be home in an hour. Where, oh WHERE does the day go?
(insert break here for me to dress!)
Okay. I'm back Did you miss me?
RTN2 - I'm still enjoying "The Story of Philosophy". Spinoza and Voltaire will require more study on my part. The more I read of it the more I am reminded that the more things change the more they stay the same.
RTN3 - It seems that my study of history is a bit random also. I seem to be working my way forward and backward with a great big gaping hole somewhere in what would be the middle if history actually has a middle. World History wasn't a requirement for me in high school, so I've had to teach myself. Since I'm a firm believer in the simple fact that history is the story of what happened to people and not a series of dates to memorize, I read stories, but keep my "Time Lines of History" book handy.
RTN4 - This is not actually a thought, just a random happening. I made more soap today. This time I used dried lavender, lavender essential oil, and red and blue food coloring. It looks nice and smells sooo good.
RTN5 - Now back to more actual THOUGHTS. I think my house stinks. I cooked, baked, and made lavender soap today. Imagine what that smells like. Can't? I'll try to describe it. Wonderful clothes-permeating beef/onion/garlic/cumin, faintly scented wafts of banana bread holding hands and happy-dancing with whatever is on the floor of my oven, the soapy smelling lavender, mixed with the ever present 'July in Michigan' smells. As long as I stay in it, I'm fine. But I went outside and coming back in felt like a nasal assault.
RTN6 - THGGM had a 'taco day' at work and now doesn't want to eat what I have on the menu. That is fine with me. Chocolate chip banana bread with a side of blueberries just might 'do'.
RTN7 - If I were to demand anything from my government it would be free air- conditioning for the masses. People who have A/C are nicer than people who do not. This is a fact. Because I say so. And, what should a government BE, if not a vehicle for making it's people nicer.
RTN8 - I DO have political opinions. But I do not share them often, and won't on my blog. Political ads sicken me. Even the ones I may happen to agree with. Although I DO wish that someone would under rite ads AFTER someone wins and give them the chance to tell us exactly why what they promised didn't happen. Because it never does.
RTN9 - Recently I received another ad for the place that sells a years worth of food that can be delivered by barrel to me under cover of darkness. This is so when the food supply tanks I will have a years supply of food in my basement but my neighbors won't know it so they will not try to riot against me. Again, this makes me wonder, would I be willing to eat well for a year and watch my neighbors die of hunger? It just makes me sad. It seems as if it would be more fun if they delivered a Pinata of food. Then, if necessary, a neighborhood block party could be arranged and everyone could take a whack at the Pinata (i have some fun ideas of what that could look like) and pick up packages of macaroni and cheese, dehydrated beef, powdered milk, and jello.
RTN10 - Seriously. I wish I had a barrel in my basement with a years supply of kindness. Some days I just need to look down that barrel and pull something out. But, kindness seems to me to be like manna. One gathers what one needs for the day. Just try hoarding it. It stinks the next day. Many things are like manna. I've been served some of the rotten stuff. But even worse, I believe I've done the same.
RTN11 - The most relaxing part of my day is when I sit at my computer, download the days pictures and use my Corel Photo Album 6 to play around with them. When I switched computers a year ago, not all of my add ons came along with it. I'm not minding that at all. Sometimes there are just too many choices. Too many choices is why I won't even go down the cereal aisle at the grocery store. Not that that has anything to do with relaxing OR photos, but it does have to do with choices, and it seems at times that fewer choices bring better results.
RTN12 - Has ANYONE read this far? If so, are you someone who watches HGTV Design Star? What is WRONG with that show this year? Now, you know me. I just hate to be picky.., but they don't seem to be given much to go on this year, do they? Oh, well. Unless they bring Clive back, I won't be watching next year. My vote, a small 'plink' in the great ocean of public opinion.

Wow!!! I have never watched Design Star. I guess I won't even bother now. Great post. I enjoyed reading your random thoughts. Great picture of your grandson.
I DID read down that far - and sadly, we don't have cable, so the only time I watch HGTV is when we travel and are in hotels. Then it is very difficult to pry me from the screen to do whatever it is we were traveling to DO - and it is very difficult to go to sleep for fear of missing something.
I've only read THIS post, but shall definitely return for more! I enjoy your randomness :)
I read to the end. I always read your post to the end, I don't want to miss a thing. As usual, you don't dissapoint.
Yes I read the whole thing and enjoyed it very much even if I do have to admit you get much more done in a day than I do even though you think you don't get much done.
How's that for a run-on sentence?
Funny, Dear Hubby and I have meals like your 'random' dinner, too. Banana bread and blueberries do make sense.
We just recently updated our DISH so we get HGTV again. I haven't gotten in to Design Star at all. The last time I watched it was when David Bromstad or whatever his name is - "Color Splash" - won. The only 'reality' show I've ever followed with semi-regularity is "Biggest Loser". But I am totally thrilled to have "House Hunters" again!!! I just wish we could get Style network so I can get my "Clean House" fix...but oh well.
Oh...a funny tidbit of useless information. On "Sell New York", I believe it's called -- one of the realtors featured is the former long-term boyfriend of our neighbor's daughter. You would never, ever dream he was 'straight' but he is. Well, at least we THINK he is. Unless he swings his bat in both directions? One never knows.
