Random Things I Remember from My Weekend

Today, I don't even know if I can come up with one random coherent thought. But to start with, I have a very messy house to clean up today. Anyone ever use Flylady? Sometimes I try, but my sink is never very shiny and I'm rarely dressed from top to shoes until sometime late in the afternoon. I realized this Sunday when I showered, dressed, put on make-up and blew my hair dry only to have Famke announce to the world that my hair looked funny. Because it was brushed and not in it's natural state of unkemptness I'm assuming, as it looked pretty good to me.

On Saturday, Oldest Son picked up Jonge and took him to see the play Tuck Everlasting at his alma mater. Last summer Jonge saw his uncle play the King in The Frog Prince, and soon he will get to see him play the general in White Christmas, so it was extra special to get to sit with him and watch a play. I'm looking forward to seeing Oldest Son play General Waverley as he is my favorite character in White Christmas. I just hope he doesn't expect us to stand and salute every time he enters a room now...

Jonge and Famke are very helpful dog walkers. It's nice that Zeke adores them. He doesn't get excited AT ALL when we come home, but he goes absolutely crazy when they come. So, he knows just what noises to make to get a walk around the yard whenever he wishes. He's a smart dog too. I know this because he will go outside and pee, head for the door, collect his 'good boy bone', eat it, then head back out again for round two, head for the door, collect another treat - except that with THREE happy dog helpers he can sometimes get SIX 'good boy bones' in just a few short minutes. Which, as you can guess, only increases the cycle.

Was the weather fabulous over the weekend where you were? It was the best fall weekend EVER here. How nice to sleep with windows open again. No need of jackets nor socks was a plus too! Not to mention how wonderful it is to have three children spend the night who all sleep through the night. Although I'm not sure how Kado slept all night with Pake snoring like a roaring lion all night long. But, they did. Not that that has anything to do with the weather.

Sunday afternoon we packed up lightly (one diaper and three packs of fruit snacks) and went to Lake Michigan. The boys helped me pick up acorns while Pake and Famke slept in the van. What a lot of acorns this year! This does not bode well for the upcoming winter, but I do like all the acorns.

When the sleepy heads awoke we played on the BIG SLIDE. This is just an old metal slide in the woods near two picnic tables. This is our Disneyland. We've been picnicking there since Jonge was Kado's age. The kids seem to like the 'tradition' (shhh. don't tell ANYONE, but i like it for its proximity to oak trees!). There were a lot of people in the park, but the big slide area was empty. And, it smelled sooo wonderful. I just LOVE fall, and the smell of fall in particular.

It was an incredible joy to wake up in the mornings to the sounds of happy Happy HAPPY children. Seriously. Kado wakes up so extremely joy filled (maybe the full diaper has something to do with that?) it's a pleasure to be awakened just to listen to him. It helps that he naps at our house a few times every week, so sleeping in the crib in our room isn't a 'new' experience for him. Jonge and Famke wake up ready to play. And, Pake made them hot chocolate with marshmallows each morning. He does not do that for me. Maybe if I were cuter when I woke up in the morning, or at least made happy sounds...

Monday I spent about fifteen minutes watching Kado exam his brother's shoe. It's one of those croc-style shoes with the holes in it. He poked at it, rubbed it, tried it on, took it off, threw it, put it on his head, talked to it - not sure just what the draw was, but he certainly did have a good time with that one shoe. I picked it up when he was done with it and just could not find anything to get excited about. Oh, to be fifteen months old...

Yesterday I ran my dishwasher FOUR times. It was on the third time when Kado seemed to discover that he 'liked the beat and it was easy to dance to', as he put on quite a show for me dancing in front of the dishwasher. In just a diaper.

And for the record (because we have established that there IS a record) they are normal siblings. One was pushed, one was bitten, one poked another with a fork, but sincere apologies followed very quickly. Well, from TWO of them. One still just grins a big goofy grin which I interpret as - I'm just going to have to be sneakier next time.

Aside from my being very tired this morning, I think a good time was had by all.

I have had to save Feist's Sesame Street version of "1234" to my Favorite line on the toolbar. Cooper requests it about 20 times a day. He'll sit on the chair at the desk, lay his head down on his crossed arms, and watch it over and over again. The little wise guy has even figured out the "Replay" button so I don't even have to help. And he's all of 2 1/2 years old. Scary.
