Polka Dot Happy Pig

A very many interesting things have been accomplished over here this weekend.

Among them, a lot, and I mean A LOT of thrift shopping.

But first you should know that THGGM has been a busy busy man. He is painting two rooms at a time. While waiting for one room to dry, he moves on to the other room. Soon, our bedroom will be painted a soothing shade of "linen". And, in the kitchen, more walls are becoming "shortbread". I'm really liking both colors.

Somehow we managed to fit in trips to four thrift stores and two antique malls.

Of course, no weekend is complete without our darkening the doors of a variety of hardware stores.

After leaving one hardware store, THGGM asked me to remind him to check on a miter saw the next time we were there. We say silly stuff like this to each other all the time. Neither of us can remember anything like that. Even if we write it down (Who is Miter and what did he see?).

Well. Guess what we found on one of our thrift store stops? A miter saw. For $4.00. He wants it for cutting trim. I now see him as someone who can make picture frames for me. (Seriously. This is about as interesting as it gets around here.)

Now since HE found something for $4.00, it only seems fair that I find something for $4.00 also. Don't you think so too?

I found a polka dot pig. Makes me so happy I could squeal. A close match to the pig salt and pepper shakers that used to belong to my mom.

Somehow we also managed a trip to Grand Haven, taking the scenic route down Leonard St. Sometimes I just need to look at Lake Michigan. And eat mushrooms at Snug Harbor. All while discussing deep topics with THGGM.

Yet there was still time to remember the events of 9/11. I think we've either taped or watched every TV special that came along. History is more than the events that happened on a particular date. History is what happens to people. I shall never tire of hearing what happened to people on this date ten short years ago.

Now I must hurry off to bed or risk turning into a pumpkin.

over here in Europe last week nearly every tv-station had items about eleven september. The "where were you"question was asked many times. I was shopping for teddybear making things after a workshop with a Seatle bearmaker the weekend before. She had to wait three days before flying home due to what happened. My son was since may in the US, thankfully westcoast. Those were sad days and many tears were shed. Likewise yesterday. You know, Judy, what hammered in the hopeless situation of the people who were trapped in the collapsed ruines of the towers? Next to the enormity of the chaos and grieve for the victims and rage for who thought this up and did it what I will never forget is those improvised carriers for the wounded that people were bringing, realising there would not be enough ambulances for the victims. We saw and soon enough knew they would not be needed, there were hardly any survivors found. Those carriers are engraved in my mind although other people do hardly remember seeing them. I did not see them yesterday, no need though, I see them in my mind. Such a picture of hope against hope. The waterfalls pools are soothing with their sound and all the names and the image of reversed skyscrapers. I was glued to the TV yesterday like ten years ago. I think our generation will never forget and I hope the next generations will never have this happen to them.

The pigs are wonderful. I love those made in Japan salt and pepper shakers.
I think sometimes horrific events happen so we can witness the good that comes from it all. When thsee events happen....I think people are reduced to their basics and their basics come out. I mean their belief in God.

Adorable piggies!
My thoughts and prayers go with all those that suffered a loss on that day.
No, I'll never forget!
