Zeke had an x-ray this morning. He has a collapsed disc in his back. The vet was very optimistic that two weeks of rest and a few medications should do the trick.
Now if only he would eat the lovingly prepared cooked chicken with rice that has his medications in it!
Thank you all for your concern.

So glad to hear the optimistic report about Zeke!
Sending healing thoughts and prayers,
Jen
yeah, I guessed right, well nearly. Go, Zeke, eat your medicine. Read the internet for different ways to make him eat them, they are very easy detected in chicken and rice! Maybe he loves something a bit "sturdier" like dumplings or leberwurst/leverworst (with whole pieces of liver in them to disguise the pill) (German and Dutch grocery/butcheries should have that).Over here that is the most recommended if the animal is not on a diet. I keep my fingers crossed and if Zeke is not resting enough, try the bench to limitate his moving. D M
I use liver sausage for pills all the time. Braunschweiger seems to be stronger in smell and is a good disguiser of the meds. The cheaper the better. Our little dog had a spinal injury and was dragging his hind legs too, but 4 years later he is doing a lot better. www.dogaware.com has tons of info on arthritic dogs and natural anti-inflammatories.
We always used peanut butter for Willow. My parent's dog thinks that pills are treats and will take them plain. Cricket is a strange animal.
I was at Menards yesterday buying some fencing for our dogs an noticed that they have treats especially for hiding pills in!!
I am so glad the issue is non-invasive and relatively inexpensive. I was nervous for you because it sounded bad.
The kids' darling Max had a similar problem a few years back. His ended up being hip dysplasia which is pretty common in Lhasa Apso breed. Keeping him contained in his little kennel for a few weeks and meds helped him out. He'll never be 100% again but he gets around well and is able to hop up on the couch and beds again. He DOES have days where you can tell he's uncomfortable, tho, and the grandboys have learned to just leave him alone on those days. He gets a little snappish to let them know. Hope Zeke perks up, too. Isn't he a Lhasa or a Lhasa mix?
So thankful he has something which will get better! Oh, and tell me about trying to make an animal eat. gah. I've taken to just cramming pills down Daniel's throat since he can sense one in his food a mile away. Too, we've been offering everything ever known to please a cat and he only chooses a couple of them. Thanks so much for praying for Daniel and I'll keep praying for your little guy, too! Oh, these hairy babies of ours mean so much....Blessings, Debra
