Just so you know, I did NOT buy this table at the flea market. I stopped to LOOK at it. But, if there were no such thing as poverty in this world, I would have bought it in a flash. Isn't it just the coolest?
In other news, last week Tuesday night as I stepped out onto the breezeway to let Zeke out, a bat swooped at my head. I can scream and I can run. I can. Loud AND fast. THGGM is my batman. He went outside, opened the three doors, and remained calm while I watched the bat fly into the garage from the comfort of a closed kitchen door. No bats were harmed, but it certainly did wake us up and cause sleep to take it's time in coming. I don't like bats. Why must they fly at my head? Do I LOOK like a mosquito? Zeke did not notice the bat, and seemed confused about from which door we actually wished him to exit.
Speaking of Zeke, no matter how deeply asleep he appears to be, if someone says "They're here!" he will jump up and run to the door, all happy to greet his people. He does love his people.
Presently I am listening to the Olympic coverage coming from the den. To me the opening ceremony was spectacular. I'm not one to usually 'get' large productions, but this one I loved! As for the games, I wish there was an exercise instructor down in one corner leading those of us sitting on the couch in a very small room for hours on end in some heart-rate-increasing exercises. You know, like how some programming includes an interpreter for the hearing impaired. Maybe even the 'Sit and Be Fit' woman. Wouldn't this be great? I for one need it.
The heat of this summer has really gotten to me. I am staying in the A/C as much as possible, but even then I am so hot I cannot stand it. No one else is hot in here. Yesterday I walked in on four small children all covered in quilts or blankets while watching Caillou. I'm thinking maybe my internal thermometer is on the blink. Fall weather is looking really good to me.
Speaking of fall, I'm sure going to miss those two oldest grandkids when they both head off to school FULL TIME for the first time ever. Not just because they are so helpful and willing with the littler ones, but because they are just such a joy to be around.
Last week a distraught Famke came running into the room where I was and announced that Jonge wouldn't share something with her. Our conversation follows:
Famke (sobbing) - Jonge won't share with me. I asked him for the _____ and he said I had to say the magic word, but I DID say the magic word and he STILL wouldn't give it to me.
Me (changing baby diapers) - What did you say?
Famke (whimpering) - I said the magic word. I know the magic word is ABRACADABRA and I said that but he still wouldn't share with me!
Me - (trying not to laugh) - Go back and try the word PLEASE.
Famke left and did not come back. A few minutes later I saw her happily playing with the _____.
So, yeah, I'm going to miss them and their funny little ways.
In other news, we are moving around furniture. THGGM mentioned to me as we strolled the flea market that even if we had money we have no more room in our house to bring anything else in. So, slowly but surely we are getting rid of some larger pieces. I'd like to blame this furniture thing on THGGM, but when I was working in my 'studio' in the basement I noticed that my workroom had ten chairs. TEN. Last time I checked I only had need for ONE chair, but I guess I just must like to be prepared. For what, I'm not exactly sure. Who knows? Someday maybe nine other people will want to sit in my basement with me, making new stuff out of old stuff. Hmmm, maybe I'll keep the six chairs that match and let the rest go.
The 'new' Big Doll was a hit (see post below)! As I picked up the toy room a bit this morning, I found the two Big Dolls diaper clad and in similar outfits, sitting among what looked like a tea party happening on the floor (oh, would they not look sweet seated around that table above?).
Even though I KNOW this, babies just grow up too Too TOO quickly! Feintsje is walking like he has been doing it for his entire life. And Hertsje, who is still just five months old, spends her floor time on her hands and knees rocking like crazy. Yesterday I also saw her reach over and snatch Feintsje binky from HIS mouth. She has been putting up with this for months now and seemed very happy to take her revenge. Feintsje was SHOCKED that she could do this. SHOCKED. And probably appalled to, but when I laughed, so did he.
I've been wanting to make a little fairy dollhouse for a long time now. Saturday as I was walking the aisles at Michael's I found they had medium sized bird houses for 80% off. Oh, my. For UNDER two dollars I was able to get one. On Sunday I went back for one more and ended up buying two. I used my 40% off coupon on a can of spray paint. Not sure yet just how to decorate the insides or what to use for fairies (buy some, make some, reuse something) but the possibilities do seem endless - I just hope that whatever I come up with doesn't require an unusual amount of clapping to keep alive.
In closing I will add that I am sick of election commercials. I do not care who you are, or even if you believe EXACTLY as I do, I am not going to listen/watch/be persuaded by your commercial. If you are looking to be reelected I can research your records on line. If you are new to politics, I can research your name and see what you value, I can research your supporters and see what they value. Do you seek justice, love mercy, walk humbly? - because I value that. A lot. And don't tell me how bad it is now. I'm deep into several books about the Civil War. So much for wishing we could go back to the "good ol' days".
These are our good old days. Enjoy them. They're all we get!

Wonderful post Judy...these are good days. I am so with you on this hot weather. I am not a summer person and this heat is miserable. My A/C should be fixed tomorrow morning. I will be a happy person! Loved reading about the magic word and the binky. Good for Hertsje.
Oh, Famke is too cute! :-)
I absolutely love the table and am so amazed that you passed it up! Go you! I have a baby doll just like that one. Blessings!
Yes! These *are* the good old days. Absolutely love your magic word story! :) Blessings, Debra
