I have been a grandma for one whole day now.
This is how it happened, as best as I can recall.
Daughter called at 7:30 Sunday morning to say her water had broke, and they were on their way to the hospital. She promised to let us know more after she had settled in.
She called back at 8:30 to say that she still didn't feel like she was having much in the way of contractions, but was dialated to six.
Before noon she was to ten and ready to push Baby out.
After three hours of pushing with little to no progress being made, it was determined that she would deliver by C-section. Every position known to man had been tried. By now she was exhausted, as you can well imagine.
At 3:37 Baby Boy arrived and landed safely in the arms of his adoring father. He watched the whole thing. He who wasn't even sure he wanted to be in the delivery room for natural childbirth. He saw inside of his wife. This amazed him. The hospital personel were amazed at the fabulous condition of Daughter's abs, a comment she can treasure always. Everyone was surprised by how large he was, as Daughter didn't look very big.
At 3:50 Daddy brought Baby Boy out to met the family. This was per Daughter's orders.
She had told him early on that no matter what was happening with her, he was to stay with Baby Boy. She would be fine.
The Husband God Gave Me could not rest until he had seen Daughter for himself, all sown up and free of pain. Then, and only then, could he hold his one and only Grandson.
Daughter is doing very well now. Once she was opened up the doctor could see that Baby Boy was in a very difficult position. He was halfway facing the wrong way. With any future pregnancies, Daughter should be more than able to deliver naturally. Baby Boy is a bit swollen on the right side of his head. He seems to be a very contented liitle guy.
Daughter was very blessed to have for her nurse a woman whose children Daughter used to babysit. She was scheduled for an eight hour shift due to the holiday, but stayed on to see Daughter safely delivered.
It wasn't the dream delivery it looked like it would be, but Daughter has already said the phrase 'next time'. She does have an extremely high pain tolerance, which served her well.
That's what I remember.
What a gift. A baby.

Indeed. What a gift.
Sounds traumatic, but you must all be thankful both baby and his mother are doing fine. He looks absolutely gorgeous in the photos! Congratulations to all.
Congrats to the grandma too!
Again, congratulations! I'm sure he will be well loved, and just a little bit spoiled by grandma :-)
Congratulations! I have been anxiously awaiting news of the birth of your grandson. He is beautiful, and SO big!
Enjoy grandma-hood. He is a lucky little chap.
So glad it all went as well as it did! We are fortunate to live today when surgery is an option! She will likely recoup faster from the C-section than a vaginal delivery with such a large baby! He looks at least a month old already...as my first one did! Trust me, years later, I recouped from my hysterectomy much faster than his delivery! (But hubby was in the Navy and military hospitals are places of experimentation! ARGH!) Have fun grandma!!
I'm sorry it ended in a c-section, but I'm glad she and the baby are fine. ("Next time" she can read up on what she can do to position the baby better during the last weeks of her pregnancy.) Congratulations to everyone!
Congratulations to you and your family on baby boy's arrival! Enjoy this special time!
