The Husband God Gave Me was driving home from Chicago one Friday night.
He is presently renting a beautiful Buick Lucerne. It helps that he has been renting cars on a weekly basis since the end of summer. He can easily upgrade to something with all the ammenities.
He also has a nice allowance, which allows him to stop at Starbucks on his way home for wonderful coffee with a triple shot of expresso. This gets him home.
Back to that one Friday night...
He took the Skyway. For the Illinois tollroads, he has an I-Pass. For Indiana, he has nothing. So, when he passed through the first tollbooth, he paid his dues. When he came to the second one, he was a nickel short.
THGGM looked all over his $30,000 car. He keeps it neat and orderly. Not even one stray penny.
Had it been his actual car, he could have found about $4.37 in change just by reaching into the seats. We know this, because we have done it before.
But he had nothing.
He begged for mercy from the tollbooth lady. She must have thought him crazy. A sharply dressed, Lucerne driving, Starbucks guzzling poor man.
He offerend her his work credit card, but she let him pass through, a nickel short.
