Pain Is SUCH a Pain

I have another migraine.

For those who are interested, I have a few known migraine triggers.

Three that I cannot control are stress, hormones and changes in the weather.

Those that I can control, I do. Those that I can't control, I stress about.

There's one right there.

Hormones, got them.

Weather. Have that.

Stress??? Who, me???

I've been waiting for five days already to hear if THGGM gets the job he interviewed for on Thursday. I'm hoping his friend Beau gets it. :)

Baby Boy came today. He was a delight. He slept, drank his bottle and slept again. In between, he smiled and cooed. A LOT.

I thought it would be funny to see what he sees when he looks out of his crib at me. So, being the idiot that I tend towards, I shot the camera - flash and all - directly into my eyes.

Bright flashing light is one of my migraine triggers.

I'm so thankful that Baby Boy was so good.

Then, Daughter came home from work. She nursed him, and left to go let her dogs out. I was fine with that, as I was looking forward to seeing Baby Boy awake.

Awake he was. So awake that he uncorked his previously corked self, and both of us required a complete change of wardrobe. It got EVERYWHERE. (and...i will never ever again eat the hot turkey dinner at russ' as it looked EXACTLY like their toxic yellow gravy.)

Strong smells are another migraine trigger.

Another migraine symtom I have is weird smells. No one else at my house today could smell the extremely strong hair spray smell that I can. I do not use hairspray. But, the smell seems to be everywhere.

And, if you are still with me, this migraine made me extremely sick to my stomach. I do not want to eat. But, I have diabetes, and I cannot just NOT eat.

A nasty migraine symtom is also pain. Anything painful feels even MORE painful. Things like sticking my fingertips to test my blood feels worse than it already does.

What do I take for my migraines? I am on a steady dose of Paxil, which is a reuptake inhibiter. This limits me to what I can take over the counter. I have a prescription for Imitrex, but it rarely touches it. Today I took an over the counter drug, which has caused my tongue, feet and fingertips to get all tingly.

I think I might have to have my medication tweaked. My doctor quit cooperating with our insurance carrier, so it will set me back $84.00 just to walk in his door.

Which, of course, adds stress...

And there I go again.

I do believe that Munch painted me...

It causes me pain just to read this list.

Is there any chance you might be one of the 50% helped by taking more magnesium? Recently read a report that half have a lack of magnesium...which helps relax the blood vessels. I need to take more of it myself to maybe help my onery blood pressure behave!

I am so sorry you are so ill...extreme pain is one of the worst things to experience. Pray God will make this one leave quickly for you!!

Oh Judy, I am so sorry. I too, am a migrane sufferer. And OUCH. OUCH. OUCH.

Feel better soon. Does an ice pack on your eyes/forehead help? It helps me tremendously.

I feel for you. I too suffer with migraines. I can do nothing but lay down in a dark quiet room which is hard to do when you have an 8 year old and a 3 year old at home all day. I take Zomig for mine which takes care of the pain in about 45 min. However, it costs $4 a pill and has some strange side effects. Still, I'd rather deal with side effects than searing pain. Oh and the Russ' neon yellow gravy - what is that anyways? It doesn't even look edible!

Ooh, another sympathy sufferer here. Your triggers are much like mine, though hormones seem to be the main one. And, alas, chocolate - but only if it coincides with the hormones, thankfully.

I wonder if you've tried ginger to reduce or prevent migraines at the early stages? I couldn't believe it would work when I heard about it, but thought it couldn't do any harm. Just regular dried ginger, about a teaspoon, stirred into some juice. If I take it at the aura stage, it's often enough to stop the migraine completely. Even later on, if I take it about every couple of hours, it reduces the nausea and the tension in my temples.
