My mom had her eye surgery today. We left this morning at 7:00. I was back home before 10:00. She had cataract surgery which involved removing her lense and putting in an artificial one.
She came through surgery just fine. The only difficulty was her usual problem of the rolling of her veins. That HURT!
I think my dad will have the toughest job today. Keeping her from rubbing it. The nastiest part of dementia is that you can't remember what you've just been told. The nastiest part of living with someone with dementia is that you have to repeat the same instructions over and over and over.
Tomorrow we journey back to have the patch removed and admire the handiwork of Dr. Siebert.
Why is it that the day I drag along a bevy of reading materials, I don't even need it? "Maria Montessori - Her Life and Work" will have to wait. But, I'm not complaining. No. Not me.
I can't decide whether I need a strong cup of coffee, or a nap.

How is the eye healing, by the way? So difficult to deal with adults going the opposite way...back towards childhood, but we do what we can for those we love.
