My Day

Today I got up early and had my mamm's - o - grammed.

It still shocks me what a dull array of magazines the Betty Ford Cancer Treatment Center has in the waiting room.

Of course, the ONLY magazine available was one called "Alaska" which prominently featured a beautiful Husky that looked just like Max. But, I handle it well. Max is gone, but he left all of his warmth and beauty in our hearts and memories.

Speaking of memories...my mammories are just fine.

I had found a lump and other oddities, and was sent to have a diagnostic mammogram. They found no abnormalities.

What a relief.

Next, I was off to my grandmother job. Baby Boy was a delight. He can now grab things. He adores watching Charley try to grab his toys also. Charley has a squeaky toy he loves to chase, and Baby Boy loves to watch him chase it. Baby Boy was full of smiles and giggles. I sang to him, a made up song with his name in it. Then, I whistled it. He tried to whistle! It was SO adorable! His little lips puckered up and he blew!

From there I went home. THGGM had been a busy man. Besides removing all of the furniture so we could have three rooms of carpet cleaned, he had scrubbed the kitchen floor and organized a new space for my new pans. He cleaned out the pantry closet. That makes three closets this week. He is a good man.

After that we met Son-in-law at the antique mall to pick up a table we had purchased on Saturday. It's really cool. Son-in-law provided the truck. He also carried it to the porch. After the carpet dried and THGGM carried it into the house, we realized how effortless it was for Son-in-law and how bulky and heavy it was for THGGM.

When we both fell asleep on the couch, THGGM obviously tired from his day of hard labor, and me tired from smiling all day at Baby Boy, we left to go shopping at the mall. I do not like to go shopping at malls, unless they are antique ones, but I do love to browse at Barnes and Noble, which is what I did while THGGM shopped. I found a great decorating book for half price, and bought a board book of "Mr. Brown Can Moo" for Baby Boy's Easter basket. I also bought "The Little Prince". I figure that if I am going to quote from it, I need to own it. I'll be taking that to bed with me tonight.

I can't even remember at what juncture we ate, but we did. At Russ'. If you are Dutch, and you live in my city, you eat at Russ' when you don't have coupons for anywhere else. Before I left the house this morning, I had smeared some peanut butter on a half slice of bread. That was breakfast, eaten on the run, as I made the mistake of checking my e-mail before I left. Then, at Daughter's house I ate a bag of popcorn. which pop's so much better in her deluxe microwave than in my bargain basement one. And I thought that Orville was slipping up. Not so.

After we arrived home we settled in to watch American Idol. This caused me to be unable to stop singing "We Are the Champions". I didn't even know I knew that song. But, I guess I do. I wonder when I learned it? Anyway, I do not sing it well, and since I really would not stop singing it, THGGM told me to shut up. He rarely does this. He patiently lets me go on and on and on. Once, before we were even married, he endured an entire evening of me doing Kate Smith singing "God Bless America". I think it was my mother who told me to knock it off that time. I do apparently have manic phases from time to time. They are few, and far between.

Now, I sit alone in a room with only a couch and a fan blowing on the still damp carpet. My beloved kitty, Barb, is trying to sit on my lap. He does not give up easily.

My mind goes to all those other women at the Betty Ford Center early this morning. At least 10 of us in the diagnostic waiting room. They separate us from the 'regulars', I guess. And I wonder...was their news as good as mine? I hope so. All but one of them seemed to be very young. I hope they all felt like singing "We Are the Champions" tonight.

I hope they do. I pray they do.

This is my favorite part of your post:

"When we both fell asleep on the couch, THGGM obviously tired from his day of hard labor, and me tired from smiling all day at Baby Boy, we left to go shopping at the mall."

I imagine you regaining consciousness in B&N, realizing you've been sleep shopping again.

I spent all of Sunday at Borders (of course, I was awake and knew I was headed there). Good times.

Um...that should read "Then..."

But, I won't change it. If I did, I'd feel compelled to change all of the other errors and the post would lose it's charm.

I highly recommend "The Little Prince", I can tell that you would love it. I apologize for not making it required reading. It should have been.

Is it better than the Nickelodeon cartoon?

Judy said...

Dad asked me that too.

I never actually watched the cartoon. I can sing the song from it, but my powers of 'ignoration' were extremely strong when it came to blocking out TV noise.

I'm going to assume that the book is WAY better.

"The little prince
In outer space
Can catch a shooting star
And sail awaaaaaaaay!"

Does he constantly whine about his rose girl in the book? If not, it's already better than the cartoon.

No. He doesn't seem whiny at all.

At least not to me. He seems brave and thoughtful.

The Little Prince is 'of the race that knows Joseph'. He knows things.
