Alrighty Then...

This was my purchase from last Thursday.

You wouldn't know it from reading my blog, but I am not much of a shopper.

Don't like grocery shopping. Hate shopping for clothes (always have - not just because i am fat).

THGGM has always loved to shop. If we go to a mall, it must have a bookstore in it, or a craft store close by.

Because that is where I will be. THAT kind of shopping I can do.

We have always loved antique shopping. But this thrift store thing is relatively new to me. Before THGGM lost his job six years ago, I would NEVER go into a thrift store.

But, once I did and discovered that they were full of books, I began to adore them. Except only the book part. Wouldn't touch anything else in one. Seriously. Would not touch it.

How the mighty have fallen!

Let's just say that I turned into a REAL shopper on Thursday. Baby Boy was seeing the heart specialist, so I did not have to consider his needs. My sister came in early, so we could get to the thrift store, where everything was 50% off, right when they opened. We actually got the last parking spot in the lot.

I didn't actually run, but went as fast as I could, ripped the tag off of this lovely buffet and paid for it before anyone else could. Yup. Me. I did that. My sister even noticed and was duly impressed.

THGGM has had his eye on this for several months now. It's lovely. Very well made. It now sits in the front entryway.

I don't think THGGM is a big fan of the styrofoam heads, but I like them there. I have even more hat boxes, but they were beginning to overpower it. I'm sure I will play around with it a bit until I get it just right.

But really. I am not much of a shopper.

Wow...I am impressed! It was when my hubby was laid off that I became much more of a thrift store shopper too...and also began yard sales more as well...you can have a lot of fun on only a few dollars. I have not got into it so much here, but then I have not shopped near so much in general. As to clothes, we got a Ross dress best for less store recently here...hard for a thrift shop to keep up with their SALES!

I've always heard Portland has some of the best thrift stores in America but now I'm thinking I need to come to Michigan some day and check out yours, haha! Hey, just to let you know...I've sent a couple of emails to you in the past week. I have terrible troubles with getting mail thru to AOL subscribers, my kids and my mom's cousin among them, so if you haven't received 2 from me, they're probably lost in cyber space somewhere. If you didn't get them let me know and I'll try sending them off again.

Oh, how reassuring to hear of another couple who see shopping in non-gender-traditional ways. I too dislike shopping in general (other than bookstores, of course) and my husband loves shopping - even window shopping. ugh.

As for thrift stores and charity shops... I do browse them sometimes, but mostly for the books.

Oh! Oh! LOVE the buffet! What a great shopper you have become... :) I also loved reading your story--sounded so much like my own! In fact, just the other day I was wondering just how many great deals I have totally missed because for 20 years I mostly bee-lined it toward the books in every thrift shop and yard sale we went to (which would add up to hundreds!). Oh well... I probably didn't really *need* all that other stuff, anyway (at least, that's what I'm telling myself.... :) Blessings and congrats! ... Debra

Had to laugh and chuckle inside as I read this... I LOVE looking in those stores... always have but just mostly look as I have NO room for much else... that is why I gave most my living room furniture away ... and the Lord has provided more, just not so big... STILL I have no more room... my living room could LOOK like a store if it weren't for all the smiling faces on my walls! Really not so bad any more and getting better, but my other "treasures" are hiding away in storage containers waiting for their turn to be displayed.
I finally got one of my chairs done if ya want to look.
Hugs,
Hilma
