Our Seven Hour Vacation, 50 Miles from Home

THGGM and I quietly slipped out of town today.

We went on a seven hour mini-vacation.

It was lovely.

At 8:30 we could be found at Perkins having a leisurely breakfast.

At 10:15 we were gazing at the beautiful splendor of Lake Michigan. This morning it was a deep deep blue.

At 10:30 we were in a pew in a big old barn-like structure singing praise songs and breathing in the heady smells of a cool summer Sunday on the lake shore.

In the afternoon we strolled aimlessly through three lake shore antique malls. I found a few simple things I've been looking for.

Buttery yellow colored buttons, to match the yellow of the wool blanket I recently found.

The blue bird salt and pepper shakers, in the post below.

Two small Madame Alexander dolls. Both in 'flower girl' dress, which reminded me of our adorable little friend who was Daughter's flower girl.

A box of very very old 'Old Maid' cards. Some in extremely poor taste; others, charming.

The child's hankie, above, which will serve as a 'cape' to Baby Boy's little friend, Jack.

And a black clutch purse with metal beading, made in India. It's found a home amongst the hat heads in the front entryway.

At 3:30 we arrived back home.

It was a beautiful day.

Those are the very best kind of getaway days. If people could only realize you don't have to spend thousands of dollars to have fun!!! I have never seen the Great Lakes...can't even imagine such huge areas of land-locked water! I'm a Pacific Ocean girl from waaaaaaaaaaaaay back when, lol!
