Youngest Son took great care of Baby Boy today while I took my parents to their quarterly doctor's appointment.
We figured some things out with their medications. Switched a few to generic, and moaned about how most of my mom's are not available in generic, and it doesn't look promising that they will any time soon. But, two could be switched, and were.
Both of my parents were fantastic today. You would not have known at all that my mom struggles with dementia. She answered every question correctly, and agreed that she is too tired to do much.
But, health-wise, they are doing excellent. Or, in very good shape for the shape they are in.
Their doctor is a wonderful human being, who treats them with so much dignity and respect I am amazed. I left with a bag full of free samples and a name of a place to call to get them help with understanding their insurance situation and other things that have been confusing to them (and me).
He thinks they are tired due to side effects of their medications, and that they need to push past it and keep walking.
I came home with a migraine. Baby Boy is being absolutely charming today. As I write this, he is playing peek-a-boo with me over the top of my computer screen.
Here it is, 4:00. Daughter will soon be coming for him. I'm trying to decide if I should take the medication that will cause me to sleep for hours, or the medication that will keep me wide awake into the wee hours of the morning.
Oh, decisions, decisions!

I hope whichever medication you chose you are feeling better.
It sounds like a rewarding if difficult journey you are on; caring for both your parents and your grandson. They are all lucky to have you.
Baby Boy is getting chunky! He is delightful!
You have no idea how much I feel for you. I was in the exact same situation not too many years back.
I was taking care of (first) my father...through a stroke..then my mother with breast cancer. Both died within about a year of each other.
As for the wee people department...I was working as a nanny at the time. Needless to say, my days were full to the max. And I was working for folks who had NO idea of the stress factor.
You would not need to show an actual "visual" to me of your grandson...been there, done that.
By the way, have you tried Maxalt-MLT for your migraines?
Also, not sure of your parents financial statis, but there are drug programs through the various drug companies which will pay for certain medications...just a thought.
Ruby, thanks for stopping by!
What is Maxalt-MLT? At this point I'm willing to try anything!
Ms. Judy, I have had migraines from the age of 14. The first time, I was in class and realized I was only seeing parts of the teacher....like through a picket fence.
I have been put on MANY doctor prescription meds. for relief. I usually ended up in the E.R. for a shot. Not pleasant.
I am allergic to Imitrex (sp?). My new Primary Physician told me there was a new drug out with much success. I was willing to try anything. Not sure how bad yours can be, but mine come on suddenly, and I truly have limited vision.
Maxalt-MLT (10 mg) is the first drug I have been given which kicks the pain to the curb IF I catch it within the first 5-10 min. of onset. It is sublingual (placed under the tongue) to melt and tastes a bit minty.
You would have to discuss this with your doctor as it is a prescription drug. I believe it comes in two variations...I like the sub...it melts fast and I get faster relief....which is a very good thing.
And thank you for the welcome! Glad I found you.
