Thanks for the link to this article1 I have been amazed at the Christ-like example of the Amish people during this time. Their concern is not only for themselves, but also for the widow of the killer and his kids. Just beautiful.

Thank you so much for sharing this with us, Judy. I can SO relate to so much of what Warren Smith wrote in this commentary. In fact, I sent him an email after reading it and I've NEVER done that before, ha! If only the whole world shared the charity of heart and depth of forgiveness the Amish have lived before us these past few horrendous weeks. It's very humbling. I call myself a "Christian" and yet would I find that same depth of Christ's love in my own heart if something like that were to happen to me? I pray so.

I deeply admire how the Amish have done in this whole affair...and agree with much of this article.

However, one point I might add, and perhaps things now are different, but at least in the past, when anyone from the Amish fold would wander away from the faith or standards set forth by the bishop, etc. they were shunned and their family also forced to shun them or also be shunned. While I am so awfully sad about how we Believers have not hung onto our children in the faith, I am not ready to shun them to enforce their staying. It is their heart that needs to be secured and well, I too have failed in that regard with mine.

One other thing I do so admire about the Amish people is how they do stand by one another and band together...all hardships in life are easier if shared with others. So often within churches it is impossible to find those who will weep with us when we weep and rejoice with us when we rejoice!! If only we could live like the early church did...it grew because everyone could see how they LOVED each other!!
