When THGGM leaves work tonight he will be ON VACATION!
So, I am frantically working to present him with a clean house.
As I was so carefully putting things in my messy art room, I found two small pillow forms I picked up at the thrift store...and...there was that wool blanket...the one I made the white pumpkins out of (see inky fingers http://www.judyh58b.blogspot.com/)
Add to that the fact that I am a mess maker with bits and pieces of the needed things in several different rooms, well...I will have even MORE to do now. And, I haven't even sewn anything on yet. Because, I am not sure that I even like it.
But, it did get me thinking - maybe I WON'T sew anything on. Yes! It could be like a flannel graph pillow! I could make cutouts for all of the seasons, and just store them inside the actual pillow. I'm making it into an 'envelope' case, so it could conceivably be done!
Now, flannel graph. It's interesting. Does anyone still use that? My mom was a Sunday School teacher in her past life. This means, that on very rare occasions when I was a little girl I could get her to allow me to play with the secret box under her bed that held those flannel graph treasures.
Godly people living together in an envelope, with neatly folded flannel scenery - what could possibly be better than that? It was more fun than the Lennon Sister's paper dolls.
To me, this was Heaven! And, not just because the characters in the giant envelope were already there.
How fun it was to place the Sea of Galilee on the back of our couch and let ALL the Bible characters eat a meal of fish and bread on it's shores. With baskets full left over, even.
Later, it was harder for me to accept that Moses did not know Peter (although they met much later on the mount of transfiguration), nor Adam know John the Baptist (their wardrobes were similar). One would think they would, living in such close proximity to each other. Especially, since some of them actually stood in for the other in a pinch.
I always knew that if I ever saw a real angel, I would know it. When he turned around 'Scripture Press' would be spelled out on his back in fuzzy yellow flannel graph.
Youngest Son didn't go to class today. He is reading C.S. Lewis' "The Great Divorce" (i can only spell d-i-v-o-r-c-e if i sing that country song) and we have been talking about it some. He just brought me his copy of George MacDonald's "Lilith".
Cleaning house is sometimes really difficult for me. I keep tripping over treasure and losing my way.
Which reminds me of...

That is just plain lovely.
I think I felt that way about paper dolls.
Love flannel boards...used them a lot when I was teaching preschool. I am making boards for my grand kids as their moms are homeschooling!!
And housecleaning...#1at the procrastination list...good for you to tackle it in the name of love!!
I actually use a flannelgraph for my Sunday School class. (I teach preschoolers.) They love to play with it after we're done putting up the story.
