Sleeping Bear Dune's

This morning we drove to the town of Empire. More gorgeous lilacs all along the way. The whole outdoors smells amazing! On our way we passed an Iris farm. The colors were fabulous.

The Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive is something we always experience when we are 'up north'. It is different every time. Today was a bit hazy. Hazy can be beautiful too, we learned.

This brings back memories! My grandparents built a log cabin on Big Bass Lake near Baldwin, Michigan, when I was a child. We lived in Chicago, and used to go to many of the places you have been visiting.
A very long time ago, when I was seven, I decided it would be fun to run down Sleeping Bear dune, and became airborne near the top, and landed at the bottom with sand in my mouth, nose, eyes, and everywhere else! My father, who witnessed this spectacular event from the top, thought I was dead, but I was just stunned. I learned that it is not a good idea to run down sand dunes though!
Loved your photos.

Oh, Nancyr, you MUST visit again. So many of these places seem untouched by time. Leland looks the same as always. I love that.

They STRONGLY discourage climbing the dunes. I did suggest to THGGM that he roll down the dune so I could take a picture at the top so one could sense how far down it actually is.

He wouldn't.

Smart husband!

I would love to go back and visit, but I live in Colorado now, and haven't been back to Michigan for a very long time. My best friend does live there though!
