February Favorites

Printed music is something I just cannot seem to get enough of.
Most of mine is stored in the bottom of this old cabinet. I think that 'someday' this cabinet would make a fabulous doll house with three deep floors and storage in the basement! But, THGGM does not see it that way at all. So, the floors hold white swans and green books, and the basement storage is for music.
It appears that I have a rather nice collection of Shaum and Thompson piano lesson books. And a lot of theory and exercise books. Oooo. And on the left is a stack of Christmas music. I just put that away.

This is a music cabinet. It's empty.
Yes. I AM going to have to work on that.

I'm always happy to find music books like this at the thrift store. When they are new, they cost too much anyway.
The Amy Grant one is fabulous.

When I bought these, it was to rip apart and make something of them.
But, I just can't do it. Yet. One of them has the tenor line highlighted in yellow. I found that a bit annoying. But, it's hard to be annoyed at something you paid 25 cents just to rip up.

These are among my favorite pieces of music.

I LOVE children's music books! A few more of mine are at the piano in the basement (what? you don't own multiple pianos? if you'd like one, call me.)

This song is from the book "Beginner's Songs", published by David C. Cook in 1902.

Can you imagine what it must have felt like to SING this?

SO much history in the songs we sing, isn't there?

Of course, no collection would be complete without Turkey in the Straw and Old Dan Tucker. And, since The Wiggles sing these songs, they are well known and loved around here. These are from a Reader's Digest collection of Best Loved Songs of the American People.

Occasionally, I DO make stuff out of printed music. Like these faux candles.
But, mostly I leave it like it is, and play it from time to time.

I could use some of those lesson books....we have a beautiful baby grand piano and I can't play a note. I plan to learn someday. Those books will definitely have to come with a great and patient teacher.
