My dad was a C&O guy.
I'm not exactly sure why, but I keep this pin in a drawer. Not displayed anywhere - just sitting in a drawer for me to look at a few times every day as I'm opening and closing that drawer.
When I was a child I remember taking train trips to Detroit and Chicago. The train ride was sooo fun. I remember drinking water out of cone shaped paper cups. And the bathrooms were AMAZING.
I remember very little about Detroit and Chicago from those trips. But I suppose that when one is a child, drinking water from cone shaped paper cups and using a bathroom that jiggled all around WAS more exciting than, well, crowds and shopping.

It's like when I was little and we would have to go to Toledo (ooo, big town) for eye therapy appointments. The special treats was stopping for lunch in this one plaza. I would get a tuna fish salad sandwich and I was sure that was what heaven tasted like.
MY dad was a C & O guy too!!! He worked for the railroad for 39 years! Formerly B & O, we had relatives in Maryland and when I was young we rode the train to visit them. He loved taking it into the station in DC. Dad worked in the office in Akron and Cleveland...just pounding out freight bills. Love that Chessie pin!
