Today I finished reading Anne Tyler's "The Amateur Marriage".
I'm partway through Dorothy Sayer's "The Nine Tailors".
Almost done with Helmet Thielicke's "I Believe".
Still holding up a lamp with "The Brother's Karamozov" but intend to begin it very soon. Really, I do.
Just bought Lief Enger's "Peace Like a River". I've got it in my soul, I mean, on my coffee table.
Today I bought Stephen Lawhead's "Byzantium". It is going into my rather large stack of 'books I want to have read'.
What are you reading? Do you want to own your favorite books? Do you ever loan out your favorite books? Has your spouse ever loaned out one of your favorite books, and you have never seen it again, and, if so, are you bitter?

I'm reading Thomas Harris' "Hannibal" and Robert A. Heinline's "The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress."
I buy books I want to read in paperback, and if I really like them, I buy them in hardcover.
Actually, I loaned my wife's favorite books to my sister, who let my brother borrow them, and now neither of them knows where it is.
Yes, she is bitter.
I will do some searching, and see if those missing books might possibly have turned up over here. My spouse lent out a few of my favorites to people who have since moved to Texas. And now he wonders why I am starting to buy duplicates of all my favorites. Generally I do not support revenge, but I have thought of lending out things that are precious to him. But, so far I haven't found anyone who wants to borrow junky furniture that is painted white.
I'm reading Anne Lamott's "Rosie." I read her latest, "Blue Shoe" recently. I have almost a whole bookshelf (6 feet high) stacked with books waiting for me. I recently scored a bunch at a garage sale. My favorite books are by Anne Lamott, Anne Tyler, Annie Dillard, Jane Smiley and Elizabeth Berg. I keep copies of my favorites--I have two copies of "A Thousand Acres." I give books, but I do not loan. My husband never loans books--he is a pastor and his books are his most important tools. :)
I just filled a six foot bookcase also. My local thrift store is selling hardcovers for 25 cents and paperbacks and children's books for 10 cents. It's just too good to be true, and has made this one of the happiest summers of my life!
I really enjoyed "Blue Shoe". And I love Anne LaMonte's book "Bird By Bird".
