I am a slob. Untidy. Disorganized. Interested in so many other things than dust bunnies and crumbs. I know this because I spent the day cleaning up after myself.
Really, I DO try. But I get overwhelmed with the magnitude of 'stuff' I've accumulated. I get seduced by the TLC show "Clean Sweep". Yet I know how those people feel when they are desperately clinging to some weird looking piece of stuff, weeping. I too want to cling to my stuff.
Looking at my home, you would think that I went through the Great Depression. Not so. But an inner voice whispers deeply to me 'hey...get that...you might need it someday. don't throw that away, you could make something interesting with it...you can NEVER have too many magazines...certainly you know someone who could use that' And the voice drones on.
Years ago, I would have blamed all of the accumulating stuff on having children with a wide variety of interests. But they are gone. And my piles of stuff are ever increasing.
I have a big week this week with out-of-town guests, a college graduation and all that entails. I'm looking forward to all of it. But I am tired. Tired of all the stuff.
Yet, all I want to do is hop in the car and run out to the nearest thrift store. I want to buy books, although I have about 75 still waiting to be shelved. I want more odd pieces of beautiful china, even though I can't even display all that I already have. I want to snatch up all of the strange little pieces of 'embellishments' to add to cards or shadow boxes. I want to buy small wooden boxes to decoupage on. I want to load up on ephemera even though I haven't yet used what I already have. I want more styrofoam heads.
I want... I want... I want...
Houston...we have a problem.

Please come to my house and take some of my stuff!! My husband likes to get stuff too. Thrift stores, garage sales, ebay. Anybody want some vinyl records?
I love reading your blog. I think I'm here almost every day. Enjoy your stuff.
What you need is a big shed. Or an apartment! ;)
Too funny. This is the first time I've visited your blog. And it's ironic that your post is on messiness and on the right your Myers & Briggs test results are INTJ. Same as mine! But the one I took online says that we hate chaos. I'm a bit of a neat freak and even tho' our test results are similar our households may look completely different!
Remember, the first step to overcoming a problem is recognizing it. ;-)
My MIND is always arranged in a neat and tidy manner. My EMOTIONS are general held in tight control (pms being the exception). My HOME, is the exception.
I prefer order, but somewhere along the line, things got out of control. Admitting that I am the 'thing' that got out of control is scary. I do SO like control!
Usually, I will make a list, cross stuff out and march on through life. But, I keep adding more stuff.
In one of the personality books, I read that some INTJ's can maintain the appearance of order (only my family knows the truth!) but if one were to look closely, one would find piles and piles of interesting projects. Piles. Piles and piles. All interesting.
Yes. That is me. A piler of interesting stuff.
Every once in a while, a pile falls over and I am forced to deal with it.
Today, I fear that I am what is going to fall over. And who will pile me back up?
I am aflicted with the same malady Judy...sigh...I can see uses for almost everything under the sun. Fortunately, mostly small things. My dad whom I inherited this from collects LARGE things...acres actually. He has a mini junkyard of sorts. When hubby gets annoyed I point out to be grateful I like small things! Heehee! Of course, should another depression occur and the banks fall once again (and it is possible I am told)...just think how invaluable our "stuff" may be for helping others! Always a silver lining to every cloud huh?
Elizabeth
you have 4 new chairs on the front porch
Well, today was a "more stuff" day! Got to go to one thrift shop and to Ross!! WHOPPEE....and also Walmart (which has just marked down a bunch of kids stuff). All had some good finds...mostly for the grandchildren. SO it was a good day!
