I spent the early hours of my morning drinking coffee, embroidering on a canvas apron and reading up on "Manners".
I found the Golden Book on Manners at the Thrift Store on Saturday. It has a copy rite of 1962. It cost 29 cents. I was four in 1962.
It is written by Peggy Parish (amelia bedelia) and illustrated by Richard Scary. I LOVE this book! Have I become nostalgic for good manners?
I especially love the advice "Don't stare and point at people. It may hurt their feelings. Don't put your feet on the seats." Yes. Because being stared and pointed at are right up there with putting feet on seats. I'm okay with your feet being on my seat, but PLEASE under no circumstance would I want to be stared and pointed at.
And look at all those requirements for going to a friend's house! And STILL one must be cheerful, and friendly too? I can do 'cheerful' or 'friendly' but rarely can I do both at once while greeting a hutchful of bunnies.
Oh, what a time that was to live in.
And how we have fallen.
As a bonus I included the picture of Huckleberry Hound which I enlarged from a tiny picture on the back of the book. I always have loved Huckleberry Hound. He was good people.

I've got that book!! I love it and so do my girls. Mine has the same date too...I imagine it only was served up once...most people probably didn't like it.
That book is adorable. My mom and I are trying to track down some Golden Books, now that we will have a new generation of readers. Are the old classics hard to find? My favorite is Baby Dear.
Me: I love it too! Especially that picture of the warthog. I actually WAS tempted to stare and point at it.
Becki linn: If you are patient, you will find it. If you are not patient, there are two available right now on eBay. If you are extremely patient, I think I might have one...in a box somewhere...I was going to decoupage with it...
I had that book when I was little! I remember the bunnies, and the bear shaking the boys hand, and the giraffe on the cover. How funny. I have no idea what ever happened to it.
I enjoyed Lois Lenski's children's books and her illustrations. Also the "Betsy/Tacy" books by Maud Hart Lovelace...I think I enjoyed them even more than the "Little House" books. I've been lucky to find a lot of the wonderful old Golden Books in thrift stores, too, and now am busy collecting a lot of the old favorites' of my kids.
Huckleberry Hound sure was good people, wasn't he...ah, nostalgia.
