Oh, Really? And You Teach?

Today was NOT a good day with my mom. Some of my theories about what might help her were tried and found wanting.

I allowed that to put me into a rotten mood, wanting to only watch TV. Even the calming voice of Mr. Rogers failed to sooth.

While Daughter nursed Famke, THGGM took Jonge outside for a walk.

I watched the news.

There was an interesting story telling how in the past high schools typically taught Spanish or French as a foreign language but today the language of choice tends to be Mandarin Chinese.

The teacher, from an area public schools, had this to say:

"There ain't no country in modern history..."

Excuse me?

And we wonder what is wrong with our schools.

I am shocked and appalled, I tell you.

Shocked and appalled.

It's like this entire country took the wrong fork in the road a while back, and I'm not even sure when it occurred. But there sure is something rotten going on, and I think it's in all the high places. We have a big thing in the media right now where our governor was caught in a lie about a cover-up concerning ANOTHER Oregon governor who had a sexual relationship with a girl who was 14 at the time...in her own PARENTS house, if my memory serves me right. THAT news story broke a few years ago and there have been so many sleasy political stories since, who can keep track? As to school, when it takes our teachers 20 minutes out of a 40 minute class to get 'control' of his/her students just to take roll call, where does that leave time for learning??? And THAT was at the school I worked at, one of the best and most affluent public schools in Portland. Oh buddy...you've got ME ranting, girl! Ha!

I hope today is kinder to you.

That's unacceptable - no excuse. And this person is an educator?
I understand about your Mom - our days seem to parallel each other. My Mom threw the loaf of bread away I bought her today because the slices were to large. I suggested cutting them in half, but that was not a welcomed suggestion.
I have a headache.

Reasons my children don't attend public education. It's becoming an oxymoron to see the two words in the same sentence.
