Eighty-Two Years Ago

I found a letter tonight. It was in a box with an odd assortment of things.
It was a letter that my grandpa had written to his sister after the unexpected birth of twin daughters.
In 1927 it cost $56.00 to have twins at Butterworth Hospital.

The first born twin was named for the sister that my grandpa was writing to.

They WERE after all, only 'expecting' to have one baby.

The second twin, my mom, was named for the compassionate night nurse who was also a friend of my grandpa's sister.

This is my grandpa and his beloved sister, Grace.
Here he is holding my grandma's purse on a park bench in Florida.

My mother was born in 1927 as well. She was 61 when she died. Some days that seems like yesterday, some days like a million years ago.
