Sadly, it didn't seem much cooler along the lake shore today.
If ever I were to get a kite, and I do not plan to, this would be the kite I would get.
Just so you know, we DID dip our toes into the water. By the look on THGGM's face, you can see that the water IS still quite cold. But, being from Michigan and having experience in Lake Superior, had he brought his bathing suit along I am sure he would have gone in.
Usually it is cooler out on the pier. It probably was, but even cooler was still very hot.
At this point my camera batteries died. The spare pair I brought along were also expired. So, what you don't get to see is me slobbing a diet cherry coke all over the front of my white shirt. Or, us getting ice cream at Temptations.
And then there was the fine scene when THGGM got into the wrong lane, which shot us directly into the state park with no possible way to turn around. It wasn't a short line either. AND we were on our way home! So, being the sorts that do not like to waste opportunity, we bought the yearly pass.
I see a lot of Grand Haven State Park, P.J. Hoffmaster State Park, and all the other State Parks along the Lake Michigan coast in our near future.
Summer, here we come!

My Mom died just before Mother's Day and the first year we took off to the beach for a long weekend on that holiday. Even with my kids being relatively young...10 and 12 at the time...Dear Hubby kept them occupied and I spent hours just wandering the agate beds by myself, something she loved to do, too. I think it was the only times in her life she was truly at peace with herself. I have a jar of agates I collected that weekend. Every time I look at them I can still see her with her old sailor's hat perched on her head, bent at the waist gazing for agates. Even tho a Great Lake isn't quite the same as the Pacific, isn't there something so peaceful about a huge expanse of water? It truly soothes an aching soul.
I love the dragonfly kite too...
I spent some lovely moments, of my childhood, in Michigan, at my grandparent's log cabin, on Big Bass Lake, near Big Star Lake. I also loved going to the shores of Lake Michigan, but in Indiana Dunes State Park.
I love that lighthouse! Some day, I'd love to revisit those places.
