Today it was just Hertsje and me.
It was obvious that she missed her cousins.
On Monday my sister came in with her grandson, so they had a wonderful time entertaining each other.
But today she seemed to notice how quiet it was around here.
We managed to have a great time anyway.
Snuggle Puppy and Barnyard Dance still seems to be her favorite books. She loves This Little Piggy Went to Market, and she thinks it's great fun to walk around the backyard while I point out what should be where, but isn't.
And let me tell you, when this little lady is hungry? SHE WILL LET YOU KNOW IT. Just one of the many things I love about Hertsje, she knows what she needs and how to get it!
In other news, I finished all 800+ pages of Mary Chesnut's Civil War Diary this afternoon while Hertsje napped. Then tonight, I got a migraine. Hadn't had one of those since the last time I had one - which has been quite a while.
Oh, and I did experience some sadness today. While I was getting a bottle ready for Hertsje I noticed two rivers of water pouring down our side street. I looked out only to discover that the hydrant at the end of the street was shooting massive amounts of water into the street. It took some time before someone from the city arrived to turn it off (really it wasn't THAT long at all, but it seemed like it). There went all that water straight down the drain, as it rapidly ran past several straw-like yards in desperate need of water. So sad.

She's a beautiful child, Judy! You're so descriptive and skillful with your words thatI kind of feel like I spent the day with you and her! (That would be fun, I think.)
Hope you've had some relief from the migraine...and I was sad hearing about the lost water, too.
Even with a couple of drenching thunder storms here last week it's still bone dry if people don't water. And I've given up on that. I don't believe in keeping on with trying to win a losing battle. Plus our water bill would be astronomical. The electric one was bad enough, ha!
Dear Judy,
So sorry about the migraine. I suffer from those occasionally myself. I like to put a rolled towel under my neck and take a lie down when they happen. A cool cloth on the forehead is soothing too.
It won't be long and Hertse will be begging to have 'exclusive' time alone with her Beppa.
It is so dry that the squirrels (naughty rodents) ate my jade plant leaves! The nerve. Sad to hear about the wasted water.
