Pick Up Day

Yesterday we spent the latter part of the afternoon outside in the pool.  THGGM had things to do after work, so he wasn't there to supervise pool time.  I was a big girl and actually went out into the 100 degree heat index backyard.  Seriously.  I want a reward for doing that.  It wasn't all that bad, really.  Feintsje, who isn't a big fan of the pool, was happy to water my feet whenever I asked.  He also helped me fill the bird feeder and pass out popsicles.  But when they went home, I was too hot and tired to care about picking things up.
So that's what I was doing this morning when I came across this.  I just LOVE it when they think of things to do on their own.  On Wednesday all of the boys had built houses for the firefighters to fight fires in..  There were four little structures.  Thursday Jonge picked up where he had left off on his structure.  When I saw this I vaguely recalled that he had asked me for a scrap of paper and  red, orange and yellow markers.  And tape.
Before I put it all away, I grabbed my camera.  This is the kind of day I want to remember.  Just a plain old ordinary HOT summer day.  Didn't go anywhere.  Didn't do anything special.  Two of the five of us were kind of whiny.  We watched Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and ate leftover candy canes.  And we had a good time.  Together.

I send you a badge: Te heet om te bewegen overlever meaning : too hot to move survivor. Did you get the pun, picking up is moving after all. My solution in veru hot weather is staying inside, all blinds closed and everything closed in the hottest of the day, open in the cooler parts. Biggest heatrelieve? A tiny babybath (the one you bathed a few weeks old baby in, when yours were young) filled with very coldish tepid water and then plunge my feet in and keep them there till the water turns lukewarm, then topping u with some cold water. Your blood circulates, cools down at the feet (do not use cold wate, your veins will shut down a bit and will not pick up the colder temperature of the water then bodytemperature)and comes up again a few degrees "colder" repeating time after time till the water is as warm as your body. The advantage of this being ypu can pull out your feet in a jiffy and run after grandchildren and Zeke (well, at least as hard as you can run) without worrying about wet swimmingsuit showing too much or clinging too tight, You can even greet the postman in a sophisticated way when only your feet are wet, We are expecting a heatwave next week, the smal basin is waiting already. It was a torrid week. We stayed cooped up in the AC. The heat wave broke last night here. I imagine it was a little earlier for you.

These kinds of days ARE for remembering. Somehow, I think you will.

The kids are picking up on all your creativity (and sense of humor, too, I'm sure).

The magic of ordinary days. It has been too hot here also. A storm rolled thru this afternoon and is still rumbling. It is a lazy day here and I guess that is ok. You have a good evening!
