It's Been Awhile Since I've Done One of These

TODAY I AM:

Wearing:  Jeans and a short-sleeved shirt.  And no socks.  Although the thermostat is set at a constant 63 degrees I am fine this way.

Reading:  Last night I finished Jane Austen's "The Watsons".  Today I'm reading, and greatly enjoying, Susan Branch's new book about her and her husband's trip to England titled "A Fine Romance".  I'm loving it!

Watching:  There are 10 Civil War Journals on the DVR waiting for me if I feel like watching something today.  Well, something other than Caillou.

Playing:  I've been playing the piano a lot lately.  Mostly Christmas music.  And a bit of Beethoven, as Jonge has been learning about him in his music class.  So far I've been able to impress him by playing Fur Elise and Moonlight Sonata.  I haven't yet found the music for Beethoven's Fifth, but the Exersaucer I bought for Broeder plays that.

Eating:  Last night for dinner THGGM heated up pea soup from a can.  This is because once all the grandkids go home for the night we are tired and have no inclination to do anything at all but sit.  Today we may be a bit more adventurous.  But then again, maybe not.

Drinking:  Right there, next to me, on a stack of books is my mug of Pumpkin Spice coffee.  It is what keeps me going.  Well, that and Steenstra's St. Claus cookies.  But I seem to have run out of those.

Wondering:  Who called at 8:11 this morning and woke me up?  And on my only morning this week that I did not need to get up at 6:30.  The caller ID on our new phones doesn't register a call on caller ID for several hours.  What is the point of that?

Praying:  For several acquaintances suffering from severe health issues.  And for the Philippines.

Making:  Not much lately.  I'm still working on the Snowmen bottles, which involves crocheting little scarves and hats.  And for Hertsje I've been drawing pictures of her and Broeder that she seems to enjoy coloring over the top of.

Perusing:  Pinterest.  I spend a lot of time looking at ideas on Pinterest.  Lately it's been mostly pictures of Christmas decorating ideas. And craft ideas.  And crochet ideas.  And ideas for the grandkids.  And pictures of soups not from a can.

Planning:  Presently I am planning to enjoy the upcoming holidays!  I love all of the planning and dreaming and wishing and hoping.  But usually, when the days actually arrive, I'm just plain old tired.  Yet, every year I look forward to it with the same joy and passion.  So, I'm just going to plan to be tired while I'm joyful and passionate. And really, if I weren't tired it wouldn't feel like the holidays!

Feeling:  THANKFUL!

Ugh - I would be freezing with no socks. I have to wear socks around the house even in the summer.

Just finished reading with a chuckle or two and a lot of "I know exactly what she's talking about".....

Sant Claus cookies (steenstra's or other) with or without almondspliiets on the back, it is that time of the year again. They were way back then a real treat (still are), buit then because of the spices that go inti the dough, they were in old times not cheap! There are nine : cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, ginger, cardamom, mace, coriander, anisseed and white pepper. Did you ecer try dunking them in your coffee, it crumbles a bit, but the taste, delicious. Or eating them on a slice of white buttered bread, Very Frisian, you know. Last recipe I read is for a sweet cheese tart, non-baked, the bottom consisting of only S.C.cookies, crumbled, and mixed with butter. I have been playing dolldoctor this week, thrifted dolls with long tassled hair, washed, hair dunked in fabric softener, stayed in all night, squeezed w.s. out, combing through, took a few hours, then rinsing, squeezing and letting dry for two days. Spraying water on the hair, dolls artificial hair should only be treated while dampened. Now I have a few lovely dolls to give away, it is nearly Sinterklaas (5 dez). Just some dolldresses to knit.
