Christmas Reading

These are a few of my yearly favorite Christmas books.

But this year I have enjoyed reading Journey into Christmas by Bess Streeter Aldrich.

It's an anthology of the author's Christmas stories.

It was just what I needed.

I didn't live in the time period these stories are written about or in the part of the Midwest where they take place, but in each short story the characters are developed so well that you can just about reach right into the book and touch them.

That is no easy feat.

Bess Streeter Aldrich knew her stuff.

This book will be on my Christmas reading list for the rest of my life.

If you like good writing and a delightful turn of phrase, try to find yourself a copy of this book.

Oh! Thanks for reminding me that I've been meaning to order A Lantern In Her Hand for, like, 20 years. I went ahead and ordered it after reading your post then added Journey Into Christmas to my wish list. (I'm still recovering from Christmas as I do every year, so I'll order the book when I'm farther away from that holiday. Ha! I know you love it so much.... I'm trying. Really.). Thanks again for mentioning Bess! Blessings, Debra

Hi Judy:

Annie from the View from 256 now at a new blog listed below. OMGosh I can't believe your oven conked out before Christmas. I would have freaked. So glad you are liking your convection/microwave oven. I've been thinking about one in the future.

Your Christmas decor was homey, delightful, and inspired...as always, my friend. Your entire house looks like a place where friends can catch up over tea and those Dutch cookies you mention, which I cannot find here. All your pictures and writing do are exude love, which is supposed to be what we are all about.

My neck of the woods looks about like yours, except that folks in VA don't have good coping skills in a blizzard.

Happy New Year
