Another picture of my dad and his sister, Margaret. This is the one taken shortly after their older brother died.
They had two baby brothers at the time, but obviously, they are not in the picture.
My dad, who only had daughters, used to tell us that he didn't mind that at all. He liked to say he had two annoying little brothers and a sister he adored.
I wish I had known my grandmother. My mother says of her mother-in-law that she was the sweetest woman she ever knew.
What must it have been like for her, to lose her oldest son? Her family lived in The Netherlands. She didn't speak English, yet. She still had four other children age five and under.
I've no reason to complain. Ever. About anything.

aha - another thing in common, I guess...having a Dutch background - I don't know how Dutch you are but I am very - Dutch
Margaret looks sad, doesn't she?
I love that name- its my mom-in-law's name, and my daughters second name.
I also love old photos.
I'm really enjoying your blog, thanks for finding me so I could find you!
We don't know what all our ancestors had to leave behind in order to come here, do we? Nice photo and glad you have it!!
Love the photo! And I know what you mean about complaining.... I just finished writing a post about complaining.... sigh... :) Thanks for your comments at my blog! Blessings, Debra
me - I am VERY Dutch. So is THGGM. I do not remember how I found your blog, but I love it!
Joyce - Yes. She does look sad. But, I remember her as a very happy person. A husband, six kids and a farm. I also remember her as being busy, but always having time for people. I found your blog from Heather's. I want to shop with you. We could fight over stuff!
Elizabeth - I've always felt bad that my grandmother never got to go back home to visit. My grandfather did. He actually died while visiting there. And, I do believe that my Aunt Margaret went there to visit, too.
Debra - So glad you have your power back on! Time will tell how I do in the 'not complaining' front.
