Baby Boy enjoyed seeing all of the flags. He likes flags.
He lost interest way before I did (i still haven't lost interest and am watching the recap of the day as i type this).
The people of Grand Rapids certainly came out in full force to honor this man.
In the days his body lay in repose in Washington DC, between 30 - 35, 000 mourners passed by.
In the less than 24 hours his casket was on view at his museum 57,000 people said a proper good-bye.
It was as if God smiled His approval on the day. I cannot remember the last time it was 49 degrees with cloudless blue skies in Grand Rapids in the first week of January.
When we heard the roar of the military planes, we rushed out to our front porch.
There they were.
Flying in the 'missing man' formation.
As the one plane disappeared higher into the sky, the setting sun shown on it, and it reflected back a bright red flash of sunlight.
It was beautiful.
I'm glad we were able to see it.

Oh, I am glad you saw them flying in missing man too and that the plane caught the light like that...I think they know how to time it - I remember Reagan's doing that too - but it doesn't make it any less wonderful.
BTW aren't excersaucer's the greatest!! I used mine for a very, very long time with both the girls - now it is gone. :(
BTW neat eyeball.. ;)
Reading about the military jets brought back a sudden memory. Several years back when Clinton was President, he came to Portland for some reason. I happened to hear on the news when his helicopter was passing over on its way to the airport and I went outside and looked up at it and thought, "The President of the United States is in there!!" That's the closest I've ever been to a President, haha! And I didn't even vote for the man. But there's still something awe-inspiring about whatever man is in the office, isn't there?
A long time ago, when Gerald Ford was president, we went to Vail, Colorado for a weekend, and we were playing golf on the course there. We played right behind President Ford. I have a picture of him, on the next fairway. He was very friendly, said hello, and waved to us. There were secret service people everywhere! He just acted like a regular guy.
What makes me upset now, is that the reporters, who picked on him so much and loved to portray him as a clutz, now talk about what a great athlete he was. Didn't hear that back then!

Amen to what Nancy said!
