Tuesday Morning in Traverse City

After our Tuesday morning breakfast of oatmeal (yes, we order oatmeal in restaurants) we went to the old state hospital in Traverse City. The picture on the right was the view out of a window at Cuppa Joe's, were we had lunch.

I liked all of the artsy shops, THGGM loves architecture so there was something for both of us.

We had originally stopped just for coffee, but the three cheese grilled cheese sandwich was the special of the day and it came with a wonderful tomato pesto soup.

I guess that back in the day they had a good sense of humor. Or were they tacky and rude? It's a fine line.

Seriously, the works of art were stunning. I think this would look very nice in my front living room window.

THGGM would LOVE to live in a condo in this place. Were it still a state run asylum, that might be possible. Now, I'm thinking it isn't going to happen.

Did I mention that he really likes architecture?

It's a HUGE complex. There are still many portions of it in disrepair.

But, oh! The possibilities!

Both my parents worked at one of these in Danvers, MA and having been on the grounds many times and seeing some things in the windows...horror stories told to me by my parents. Too many memories of Lost Souls for me to live in one.
Maybe future generations.
BUT agree about the architecture.
Ours was red brick and on a beutiful hill surrounded by fields of produce some of the patients were able to work in.
I believe it was torn down.
Could it be because the state does not want to be reminded of the Past. sigh!
