Just after Christmas I found a scarf stitch that I wanted to try. THGGM only wears cashmere scarves and I cannot stand to wear scarves so I chose to make one for Jonge. His winter coat is orange, black, and gray. I'm one of those people who could stand for HOURS in front of a yarn display dreaming of what might work. The oranges were all the wrong shade and the black wasn't at all interesting, so I found a nice shade of gray. I stitched it in all half double crochet, but instead of stitching the subsequent rows into the top of the stitch one stitches into the middle which pulls the top stitches to the back making it very thick (it looks almost knitted that way). Would he like it? It didn't seem likely. But, he did! And then Famke wanted one so I went back to the yarn selections, stood for a very long time and chose a lovely variegated for her. She loved it but she really wanted pink, even though her coat is solid pink. So, back I went. No need to stand for any length of time as the pink was on a great sale. Kado's coat is black and gray so I thought as long as I'm here, I might as well pick up some yarn to make one for him too! Since his was the forth one I've made it came out the best.
I'd planned to bring them with me to their house today, but Jonge is sick with strep throat. Poor boy.

I usually don't wear a coat. Just a scarf and gloves. I know I am crazy but I hate coats. I can handle any color scarf, just in case you were wondering and any color was on sale!!
I would so love to be able to do this. Everytime I try it looks so nasty. Sigh.
