Reading History

Recently my reading has been of the historical kind.  My sister loaned me "Island of Hope, Island of Tears" awhile back.  Wow.  I'm almost through with it and I do HIGHLY recommend it.  Most interesting was trying to place my relatives to the time frame that they would have entered the US.  Much to learn in this book.
In December, between Christmas readings, I powered through "Michigan" by Dunbar.  In this book I was fascinated by the early history of Michigan.  So much I did not know, even though I've visited both forts and listened intently to what the docents had to say.  Now I want to go back and see it all with more educated eyes.
The last quarter of the book was less enthralling to me, but the occasional paragraph would stand out. Especially the two by the red X.  This was 1958.  Can we not get a clue?
And look what's up next?!  I'm a few chapters into this one.  Not sure if I'll read it all or just skip around to the good parts ;D.
It is over 1000 pages long and kind of heavy to hold when I crawl into bed at night.   But I can already tell that I'm going to love it.
So that's what I'm up to in the wee hours of the morning.
