Yesterday it snowed about eight inches. Snow has never been a problem for Zeke. He plows his own paths with nary a problem.
Today it warmed up a bit. That was fine with him. Most of the day he goes in and out. Famke lets him in and Kado gives him bones.
Now look at his legs in this picture. What you see on his legs is also covering the underside of him (this picture is after he shook himself a few times).
Remember, he has been in and out a half dozen times at this point.
But this one time he must have forged a new path in the snow.
Due to his color, I didn't notice what had happened until he shook himself really hard and marble and golf ball size snowballs flew off of him and all over the room! Poor dog, he could not figure out what was happening to him.
Of course, I tried to help him, but since he hadn't a clue what I was trying to do, he would not cooperate with me. The biggest snowballs were stuck under him. Famke had a great time picking them up off the floor and throwing them into the sink.
It was the strangest thing I have ever seen.
He has been out at least six more times and it hasn't happened again.

almost only happens when the dog is out again and not wholy dried off from the time before. Melting snowcrystals leave him a bit damp, the snow adheres to the damp and voila, a dog fixing golfballs for mummmy. If you dry him before letting him out, it will not happen as easily. Get him used to a hairdryer at low heat, the gush of the air will dry him as good as hot air, so lukewarm would be fine. Or just towel him dry and keep him in for at least 20 minutes. Watch it, do not let him chew off the snow himself, it is not good for dogs to eat quantities of snow, wolves prefer drinking open water to eating snow. Do watch when the children throw snowballs for him, let them be big enough to not choke him almost and teach them he should not eat snow when outside playing.
A Maltese Lion with very long hair has the same snowgathering problems, backhair at least 6 inches, tail 20 inches, no snow over here, frost and yes, they think tomorrow the meadow-iceskate rings will be open. canals still no ice, so Fryslan can forget about the 11 cities skate this year, I think. (elfstedentocht) a round skating through eleven cities and thirty villages. When the weather is without windchill and a little bit of sunshine it is still 200 km. skating, but with snow and windchill it is like hell, I have heard. Tomorrow we are going to Amsterdam/Schiphol to pick up our son, who has been in USA from 7 december last year, his doggy the Maltese will ignore him for about 3 minutes, to punish him for leaving her at home. My friend, my daughter and I were driving in the snow one day. When we arrived at the destination my friend exited the car and was laughing hysterically. I thought wt? and then she held up her scarf that had accidentally been dragging outside the door the whole time. It had giant snowballs all along the pom poms on the edge. Then my daughter and I lost it too. This reminded me of that. I had to laugh at poor Zeke.
Dogs can provide hours of entertainment...at least for me.
It used to happen all the time with my Lhasa. They are snowball magnets!
I lost my dog over a year ago, and really miss her.
