As we backed out of the driveway in the early afternoon it occurred to me that I had not left my house once since Fientsje's birthday party last Sunday.
So, it was time. Not that I hadn't been BUSY, but all of the activity happened here.
I'm sure you cannot imagine what we did.
We are sooo predictable.
The antique shopping is very good in Spring Lake and Grand Haven. What can I say?
It still amazes me when I find things in antique malls for so much less than I'm finding the same things in thrift stores. What IS that about?
The tea towel works perfectly in my kitchen (too bad i don't!). When I bought it I had only seen the lovely tulip boarder. When I got it home and saw the klompen dancing children on the other side I was even MORE excited.
I'm also happy to report that I'm putting my thrifted Jenga set to good use. Now my canal houses aren't sunken into that bottom shelf. The game pieces actually fit in there like that's what they were made for.
The fruit embossed glasses were two dollars a piece. I think I know some children who will like to drink from these. I stood for the longest time staring at everything in the booth that had these glasses. It looked just like what I want MY kitchen to look like. It was hard not to go crazy. You would not believe all the stuff I put back.
Although the humidity had dropped overnight, the outside temps were still in the mid to upper 80's which made for some HOT shopping. Nobody was complaining though, as it felt SOO much better than the previous few days.
See this pitcher? That's also one of the reasons I put stuff back.
I think it just may be my favorite find of the year.
I actually gasped audibly when I saw it.
Seriously.
It has a different picture on each side, so I'm thinking it would work nicely on the dining room table. Maybe with some dried hydrangeas in it.
Can you tell I'm narrowing my tastes? No? Neither can THGGM. But I am. I'm trying anyway. I just seem to like EVERYTHING.
In other news..,
Daughter and her family are vacationing in St. Louis this week. They've already been to The Arch. We watched the kids on Friday night so Daughter could go to her high school class reunion. The three oldest kids were SOO very excited. Famke was incredibly talkative and just could not contain her joy. She is really growing up. In a month she will be five, and the following month she will start kindergarten.
So you might think that it will be quiet around here this week. I don't think so. Hertsje and I will make a lot of noise, I'm sure. It goes without saying that she will miss her lively cousins. But if she seems bothered by their absence I could rub her hair and say "your head is SOFT!", steal her binky, or throw fabric stars at her - as she seems to like it when they do that to her.
The weatherman told me that it could be down to 60 degrees tomorrow morning. That thought makes me so very happy!
So how about you? What's the weather like where you are? What did you do this weekend?

I need to go thrifting in your area..it seems there every place I shop around here is over priced. You also find great pieces!
Aren't you glad the temps are coming down a little? I'll take every little decrease I can!
Judy,
Daughter and family MUST go to Ted Drewes while they are here visiting St. Louis--best frozen custard in the world! (I am not biased or anything.) The kids would loooove our zoo--best zoo in the world--and it is free to get in!! Hope they have a good time--it is pretty hot here too!
Mary
Love your new finds.
The weather here (SW Michigan) is wonderful. Who ever thought 85 degrees would feel cool?
I am loving these cooler temps in the Detroit area. We were in Kitchener, ON, yesterday and it felt warmer there than it did here! But they're somewhat further east so maybe they were on the edges of the cool-down. It's been in the high 40s there...Celsius, that is, haha!
Dear Judy,
I loved your suggestions for if Hertsje misses her cousins! Too funny.
Our thrift stores are priced ridicously anymore.
Here in the Twin Cities, the charitable organizations all squabble to acquire the donations, then they are sold by the pound. The charity that received the goods, receives the monies for the poundage. Two thirds of what is donated is then culled and sent out of the U.S.
Just wondering, is this happening where you're at too?
Famke heading off to kindergarten sends a pang. She will be missed.
So appreciative of the break in the heat. *AH* I cannot stand the extreme heat since having two different episodes of heat exhaustion.
