Today was an absolutely beautiful fall day in MIchigan.
Temperatures in the 60's, partly cloudy skies, and the poison ivy climbing up all the trees is a bright flaming red.
THGGM, Oldest Son, DiL1, and I traveled to Allegan to walk around at the Allegan Antiques Flea Market.
Since there is nothing that I need anymore (except for better blood sugar) I wasn't doing much looking, just wandering around outside bumping into things and straining to read teeny tiny price tags.
But the extra pairs of eyes that were also looking found a book which made them think of me!
The Sunbonnet Babies in Holland!
I didn't even know that the Sunbonnet Babies went to Holland, and here there is a book about it.
And it is lovely. But really, how could it not be?
The price seemed right for this book, but of course THGGM asked for the best price, and am I ever glad that he did.
Because now I own this book.
This book that I didn't even know I NEEDED (along with better blood sugar).
Everyone of the pictures in this book is sweeter than the one before (as is my blood sugar). And the Dutch children? ADORABLE!
I plan to savor this book. Amazing how well preserved this is for being nearly 100 years old. I'd like to look this good at 98. Which I do plan to see (if i could only get my blood sugar to cooperate).
Since THGGM's birthday is this week, we were looking for something wonderful for his birthday. And we found it!
For years, maybe even decades now THGGM has been looking for a carved wooden dough bowl, the kind that looks very rustic and sort of trough shaped. We have seen them many times, but the price was more the size of two weeks worth of groceries, which we could not justify. Because we get hungry (and i get high blood sugar readings). But today, while walking down one of the VERY crowded lanes through the market we saw someone carrying a dough bowl. The price sticker was low. Very low (like my blood sugar is not). I felt close to tears that we had missed buying it ourselves when I noticed that there were more all for that very same low low price.
So THGGM has a wonderful birthday present and we are now left with the question of where can we put this wonderful large wooden dough bowl and what should we put in it since we do not eat bread much (due to my high blood sugar).
Then because of our extreme happiness we celebrated by sharing an Elephant Ear (oh stopped it. i know what you are thinking. we SHARED it. he had more than me). Certainly an elephant's ear is protein. It's a mammal after all.

Watch that blood sugar, will ya?
As you may have noticed, I'm out-of-commission BIG time. Now and then, between visits to The Home, I check things out in BlogLand....
Hubby and I are now officially on a greatly altered vacation. Hope to tuck in some daily, memorable, vacation-like activities around the time spent caring for my parents.
