Last Week Wednesday Afternoon part 2

Just down the path from the Lighthouse was the Fog House.  This also is a museum, and filled with interesting things to see, and DO.

Wow.  This pool was used to explain how shipwreck searches are preformed.  There are MANY shipwrecks in the area, as Lake Michigan can be brutal. The docent was an incredible person who explained it all so well to Jonge, and then let him try.  She noticed right away how quickly he caught on.  Jonge told her that he had a remote control boat.  Apparently, that is pretty much how this works.  Just a couple more controls, and the ROV pilot can only see the screen, not the vehicle.

It's possible we may have a ROV pilot someday.

So since there were no lines, Jonge got to spend quite a bit of time capturing  rubber duckies and diving sticks!

Famke tried also, but said she liked watching Jonge capture things more than piloting.

Good museums are amazing places to take children.

And a good docent makes all the difference.  This one was informative and encouraging.

She even told Jonge what kind of college degree would be required to get a ROV pilots license, and what else ROV pilots do besides search shipwrecks.

Next we hiked back to the Lighthouse, on our way to the museum gift shop.

But first, for old times sake, we stopped at this lilac bush to take a picture to send to Jonge's mom.

On the day he turned five months old (it was my birthday!) we were here.  Baby Jonge loved smelling the lilacs that were blooming at the time.  That day we took a picture of him doing just that, so this is our reenactment 8 years, 1 month, and 16 days later!
Then it was on to the museum gift shop, which had the Grand Traverse Lighthouse made out of Lego!  Another thing I've noticed, museum gift shops have gotten a lot better!  I remember as a child that every souvenir shop smelled like cedar wood.  Jonge and Famke got bracelets that said "I climbed the Grand Traverse Lighthouse".  I didn't get one.  I didn't climb it this time.
