Linens On the Line
Just some laundry on the line on a windy Saturday. For some odd reason that I could never explain, I love this picture.

Saturday Thrifting
.jpg)
Only one thrift store today.
January is a high gas bill month.
But, I did manage to spend only 75 cents today.
Two twenty-five cent books for the grandchildren and a teeny-tiny baggie of teeny-tiny wooden bits for me!
Remember these spool friends I made awhile ago?
But, in the teeny-tiny baggie of teeny-tiny bits I found an even smaller spool of thread. And, a matching small wooden bead.
I'll need to study the family dynamics before I draw on a face.
Oh. And I've also learned that although the shell feet were the absolute cutest, they did not hold up. So, it will be teeny-tiny button feet for this teeniest of tiniest spool friend.
Seriously.
I LOVE making these little things!
(hey. i might not get bored, but i DO get weirder and weirder.)

Alrighty Then
Hmm. This is not what I set out to do today.
No.
I actually sat down with yarn and a crochet hook, planning to make some fingerless mittens.
After many monotonous rows it lost its allure, and I proceeded to attempt twisting it into a flower.
Those results were better.
I tried to make leaves by cutting three leaving the tops attached, but then I made a few tucks, rounded the tips and liked how it looked as a flower.
Ooooh. Then I remembered that I had retrieved a wool blazer and a pair of wool pants that THGGM was bringing to the thrift store.
What was nice about the blazer? It had interfacing which kept it from fraying. This was a nice bonus.
The leaves are just sitting there while I try to decide whether I should sew them, glue them, add a pin back or what.
Usually, this means that sometime before Christmas next year I will open up a box and there will be all of THIS and I'll have a vague memory of this day and wonder about my sanity.
I DO like them.
I'm just not sure exactly what I could do with them.
Now I'm sort of wishing that I had stuck with the fingerless mittens. At least I would know what to do with those.

These things just came about.
Cutting up a wool blazer is FUN. There is lining and buttons and pockets and, oh, those pocket flaps are fabulous!

Made a really cute hat and collar for a croquet ball.
She looked lonely, so I plunked a wrist pin cushion on another croquet ball and now she has a slim friend.

I Found One!
.jpg)
Tonight I made one quick stop at a thrift store.
On the very unorganized (it was the end of the day there) toy shelf I found a large bag FULL of wooden train stuff!
Lots of it!
Jonge already has a cool wooden train set that he got from his aunt and uncle, so this one is for me.
And just look at how fast it goes!
I'm going to have a lot of fun with this.
Can't wait until my dad is well enough to come over here and help me set it up. He's an old railroad guy, so I'm sure he can figure it out. I already asked THGGM if he wanted to play, but, I think that what he said means 'no'.

Oh, Yes! It Is True!
Only SIX months until Christmas!
Wow. To me, it seems like it was just Christmas yesterday.
To be honest, I still come across the errant decoration that hasn't been packed away yet.
But, I'm also happy to announce that I now have a root cellar Christmas room. LOVE all those built in shelves. Everything safe and tidy in ONE place.
And, that book in the picture? I LOVE that book! If you are interested, I saw one yesterday on the 50% off table at Barnes and Noble.
Mine was a gift, and I shall cherish it always.
In fact, I used the idea on the cover in my half bath. I have my old blue Christmas ornaments sitting on the tops of all my old cobalt blue medicine bottles. Charming. And, still there. Sixths months after the fact.
I'm not exactly sure why. Maybe because nothing says "Christmas" to me quite like blue ornaments resting on top of blue bottles.
Whatever. I like it.
There. Just for YOU, I added a picture of what some of the bottles look like. Even though they look dusty, I still added them. For YOU. Famke is my 'duster' and she cannot reach way up there. Neither can I.
So. Merry Christmas. In six months.

What Else?
Feeling under the weather today. Where DID that phrase come from? The weather today is wonderful - I am enjoying it from inside, under a quilt.
I am catching up on old magazines. The ones I carried into my bedroom on the Saturday before Easter and found them again when I cleaned my bedroom.
Occasionally, I will find something inspiring and emerge from under the quilt to do some rearranging.
Do you like the birds? I found them for half price at Michael's last week.
I'm really quite fond of birds. Birds were the pets of my early childhood.
But these two I purchased purely for their decorative qualities. And, they were cheap, like me.
Curiously though, a sticker on the bottom of them tells me that they are for "Decorative Use Only".
I'm trying to think of what other function they could possibly serve.
I suppose in a pinch one might be tempted to dip the tail into a sauce of some sort and then lick if off, but, even for me that would be a stretch.
How stupid have we become, when that sort of sticker is necessary?
Now I am going back under the quilt.
